6th gen tranny in 4th gen
Quick question, can you custom put the 6th gen automatic transmission in the 4th gen maxima without swapping engines? man i dont know much about cars, so dont reply all ignorant if this sound like a dumb question, thanks.

Seems to me the transmissions are completely different, and they have a separate computer, called the TCM. You would have to wire like a madman to even get it close to working.

That would be easier in one aspect, as people have done it before, but it's ultimately not worth it, as there are no real gains to be had...actually it would yield more drivetrain loss than a 5spd. <- dont quote me on it, but it's common sense...more complicated = more drivetrain loss

when I had my mustang I swapped a t-5 (stock 5-speed) for a t-56(6 speed from a viper) and the final gear ratio was the same or very very close but it did allow me to stay in my power band much longer (IE the gears were closer together) so my rpms did drop as much with every shift. It was a great change for me but I'm sure It was also a much easier swap. All that was done was move the cross member back and change clutches. (no computer controled tranny) Also I had make a change do to the power handling req. (I was running low 10's@ 132mph on DOT tires in the 1/4)
