OK, I got one of those darned remote starters, and the thing is tight... when it works, which is about 80% of the time. The other 20%, it turns the engine for maybe 4 seconds, but it never starts... then, on the 2nd try it will - always.

My question is, what can I do to fix it? My car normally starts RIGHT away, and when I use the key it still does.. this just acts like the starter is not getting enough umm "mffff" to get the engine to start (it acts like your trying to start a car that is out of gas - it cranks normal but wont start. Is there like some "make this thing start" wire that I can attach to ?

Wild guess... the remote starter contains a relay which serves the same purpose as the key-operated ignition switch. That relay has burned contacts, so there is a voltage drop at the relay. That leaves less voltage for the ignition electronics.

I have a remote starter also (this is my 3rd car with it). I only have the problem when it doesn't crank on cold mornings. If you have a good remote start you cannot adjust how long it will try to start the car (this will be sensed automatically from the car electronics). I had a mechanic clean out my fuel system and it still did it. If it starts on the second try, don't worry. Everyone told me its not hurting the car.

I'm no electronics whiz but I went through a similar situation with mine. I don't know what brand remote start you have but with my DEI unit it has different settings for 4cyl, 6cyl and even 8cyl engines. When I had my problems I worked along with my installer and DEI tech support to find that out. Hope it helps.
