Will any 4th gen ecu work in my 98gxe?

Testing to see if mine is fried..
someone local has a 95 auto ecu, can I plug it in and it work regardless of the fact that it's an "auto" ecu?

Or does it HAVE to be a year/tranny specific...

I could see either way, and Im almost certain it will work w/ ^^ that ecu but I want to see what yall say

Im too lazy to look it up, but check hte ECU pins for power when hte key is at ACC, it is the red wires that go to the ECU
