Just wondering if anyone has ever installed a bulldog remote starter on their max and if its a tuff job? Would i need a 791 bypass and a transponder key?

No bypass needed if you're not a 99, <99 didn't come with an immobilizer or coded key.

I haven't done a Bulldog, but I did a Valet on mine and it was easy, just a matter of tapping a ****load of wires. Majority of the time is spent locating and soldering.

I installed bulldog remote starter(rs1100) on my max (1998) last october by myself.
It wasn't that tough. however, you have to call customer service for help after you installed it. Instruction booklet doesn't explain all of it, specially at the end part.
After I called, my curiosity was solved and works pretty good. my friend has viper remote starter and he always complain about the range. mine is 400feet max range and work better than viper.
-Note-
it is good idea to get wire harness to save time.
if you have 99 or newer model, anti theft system is already installed. that case you will need to get bypass. otherwise, you are just fine w/o it

Have your friend go back to the installer that did it. If the range is that bad, something is wrong and its not the product. That is of course unless hes buying online...

antitheft and immobilizor are two different things. If you have a 99 theres a chip in the key that needs to be bypassed, if not then you dont need anything.

your antitheft pretty much consists of the horn honking if you open the doors from the inside when the car has been like for a minute or so....99's have immobolizers as stated earlier

I dont recommend the bulldog systems personally....they tend to be unreliable IMO. I've done quite a few of them in different cars, and they all came back with issues...of course these were the wal-mart bulldog systems.

Physically speaker anyone with a bit of knowledge could put one in.

If you want your lifetime warranty and reassurance its a real unit as opposed to alot of the counterfeits found online and Fleabay then take it to a dealer.

how do you get to the wires to wire it to the ignition, do you have to take the wheel off?

just go under the dash. Although this being the absolute easiest part of doing a RS and your asking where they are would make me suggest going to a dealer.

This is why Don will be doing an RS on my car, instead of me touching it. He's got the experience the know how and is one of the few people I would trust with my car.

Just a remote start? WIth keyless entry? Alarm/remote start? Two-way pager? Etc...

the reason they say that is because if you don't have it installed by a certified professional they won't honor the warranty, at least thats what I was always told. I use to work at an electronics store so i had our car dept. guys do it, and i'm soooo glad. It took quite a while (granted I had a few extra pieces installed with my alarm) and it was money well spent.
