trunk mechanism

hello org i am not trying to break into any cars here (any operable cars that is) but in a 97(-99?) junker with no driver door panel or switches, how would i go about getting the trunk open? i mentioned the door because i saw another junk max with the trunk release on the underside of the left driver armrest built into the door molding. i already tried pressing down on the gas door lever like in my 96..
thanks

i would if i had access to it. the cars do not come with keys, and are arranged in the gravel/mud lot by a very large piece of machinery that from the way it lifted an F-150, looked as if it could flip cars like pancakes. it is in a junkyard, and they do not supply keys to all of the hundreds of POS vehicles there. the doors are left open and unlocked, but this max's interior and exterior was stripped except for the seats, speakers and steering wheel with the airbag popped out. even the seatbelts were cut off at the pretensioner.

Try going through the rear arm rest.

If the rest of the car is stripped I assume you need some parts from the trunk? Tail lights? Wiring? Are youplanning on getting some parts out of it or do you plan on taking what's left of the car? If everything else is stripped except for the back seat, just take the rear seat out and supporting frame -- then, you will be able to reach back to the trunk latch and flip the switch.

Trajiksmax suggested going through the rear arm rest, but unless you have really long arms, you will have a difficult time reaching the latch. Good luck!!

the rear seat supporting frame is still bolted on there good. im not taking the car, just want trunk access...i assume there is some kind of cable / linkage to the trunk release beneath the arm rest? should i give up on the real lever/control to open it?

could always hope theres a battery in the car then bring a switch of your own or just get a piece of wire and connect the two terminals on the actual switch plug, since theres not a door panel anymore.

Speaking of keys....
My trunk will not open with my key (I just discovered this yesterday, because I always use the remote). In the past, I did notice the key wouldn't work, but I just thought the lock was frozen (in North Dakota). Now I'm in Florida with 75 degree weather, so I'm pretty sure it's not frozen. Does it use a different key?

Hello isawyou:

I am working on my trunk lid and experienced the same thing. The trunk cylinder was stuck because the previous owner (and myself) only used the remote to pop the trunk.

What I did was open the trunk fully, remove the trunk lid liner and place a rag securely right under the trunk cylinder. Then, spray PB Blaster or WD-40 inside the cylinder and on the back side of the cylinder mechanism. After letting it soak in, insert your key and slowly turn the key. If you need more leverageto turn the key, put a rag or paper towel around the key and use a pair of pliers (gently!!) and turn the key tot he left and right until it works it self free.

Good luck!!

it's in the stickies, you can use a broom handle and go in through the rear armrest to open the latch.
