98 tach in a 95?
My 95 tach is dead. I found out recently from some of you fine folk on this org that its a common problem. So being that a new tach assembly runs around $300 ^, I found some used ones on ebay and other places. But I dont want the same problem again later on. So could I take the tach assembly from a 97-99 max and put it into my cluster with no problems? My main ?'s are does everything attatch the same and are the plugs the same. The only differene I know of between the two clusters is the bulbs used for illumination. But what about the rest. Thank you

I have a 95 Max and the same thing...I recently bought a 98 digital odometer gauge cluster and the wiring harness for the newer cluster but don't know which wires need to be spliced where in order for the odometer to work...if there is any information we could start a HOW TO thread in the stickies for that! anyone?!

are the wires not color coded the same? I figured maybe a different harness style with different pins. But I guess it could be completely different because I think the 4.5 gens have a different ecu right? OBDI or II? I wouldnt mind looking at a couple schematics and figuring it out. All I need to figure out is for the tach. But for the entire cluster, as long as the ohm levels that the temp, fuel level, and speedometer sensors are the same it should work. Just have to figure the wires out.

thats what I thought too. But my CEL was coming on a week after I got mine, so my dad got out his scanner and was going to plug it up and asked me if I knew what plug it was, I said probably OBDII without even looking. But when he went to plug it in he said no it wasn't. The OBD plug doesnt fit. I've had two 240sx's, the 95 wasn't OBDII but the 96 was.
So does anyone know about the color code for the instrument harnesses? Or maybe know someone who does know what goes with what or something? I'm thinkin I can just switch out the mechanical parts of the tach in mine, But I havent looked at it to see if the the cluster-side harness is actually attatched to the mechanincal part of the tach. Linkage, since you have an extra cluster maybe you could tell me.

The OBD-II PLUG on the 95 MAXIMAS are on the PASSENGER SIDE on the floor right next to the ECU Cover... To the left of the passengers feet..
NOT in the fuse box cover where most OBD-II plugs are on 96+
ALL 95+ maximas are OBD-II
