There is a peice that sticks out on the pad itself. This must be lined up with one of the grooves on the caliper piston. I hope this fixes the problem for you.

Check to make sure the piston is retracted all the way in. Note: The rear calipers are the type you have to turn and compress to get them back in. That is what the notches are in the piston. I found this out the hard way.

Yes you need to "turn" the piston back into the caliper. Just make sure the rubber boot doesnt grab and tear as you turn it in.

You can press the ends of needle nose pliers into the indentions to get ahold of the piston. With patience and time you can turn them all the way back in so that the new pads will fit down over the disk. I'm sure there's a better way but this will work. If your shims are rusted get a shim kit

This really is the key to the whole thing. Caliper won't fit over pads unless this nub on the pad fits in one of the piston channels.

You really shouldnt have to get the tool. Ive done it with long nose pliers. If you do want it, they sell it at www.sears.com

Recently replaced my pads and disc on rear

I recently effected repairs on my rear brakes with new pads. However after getting everything back on I notice a "clunk" noise, coming from the rear while going over bumps. Now if the breaks are applied there is no noise. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also one of the guys helping me took off the whel hub (bearing and all) could this be loose?

I believe you need to unscrew the piston so that it gives room for new pad to go in.

go to autozone. they'll let you have one for a small, refundable deposit. sort of a complicated C-clamp with a fitting with nubs for the piston to mate to. turn the handle and watch the piston screw back into the caliper

I got mine from Napa, I don't know if you guys have it around your area but they have pretty nice stuff(as of tools) Yeah before i knew it twisted back in I went through two C-clamps. Just try to do it just like the fronts, didn't work out as well.
