That ducting you added is not going to do anything for your time, let alone drop it fomr a 15.4 to a 15.1. Your time dropped because you took out your seats and possibly because of outside conditions, (temperature, track, your launch/reaction time). The intake is probably only sucking a very small ammount of the air in that ducting, if any.

hmm I had the same type of setup, but when it rained I ended up with water around my filter. Also once I had it connected to my filter and it drew water in and my engine stalled. Thank god that it didn't get too much in my engine. Not a really smart idea, but hey, experiment won't hurt too much.

I'm going to pipe in with some knowledge that I have.
My friend and I did a tutorial on an insultated CAI, and we too use drier hose (and some insulation that makes the Rx-7 1st Gen airbox look like a Jiffy Pop Popcorn popper, but I digress).
We routed ours around the radiator and then use plastic tubing in front of the rad to get fresh air.
The difference between insulated and uninsulated ducting is HUGE when it comes to returning the intake charge to ambient.
At a stop light, waiting for 2 minutes, the uninsulated CAI, due to heat soak, took 10 minutes to return to ambient. The insulated CAI took about 15 seconds...
So, the insulation isn't bad, but like others here, I'd much rather see you route it around the rad (tricky without cutting metal in the Maxima) than hang it low where it could pick up squirrels and road debris

The problem you will have is that there is very little air pressure UNDER the car given the amount of air flow ABOVE the car.

I suggest that you move the duct opening up to the front of the car through the bumper space. I'd also put a mesh screen in front of the opening to keep out debris.

I did something similar in my GTI where I ran 3" ducting from the OEM airbox to the lower grille, and it definitely made a difference. I might try the same idea on my Maxima, but I'm not sure where I can run the ducting to to get the most air.

It's like a blast from the past We were doing this mod 5 to 6 years ago. Even I tried it. It did nothing. Believe me, I tried every intake setup imagineable including POP/w resonator, POP/no resonator, CAI, stock hacked air box w/resonator, stock hacked airbox/w resonator, and plus various pipes funneling air in and around the filter. After about 4 years of racing and about 120 passes is varying conditions, the best intake set up as verfiied by slips and OBDII datalogging, was the stock hacked airbox/w resonator.
The reason this guy went faster was because of better conditions. The intake, ground wires, and lack of rear seat did nothing. If he posts the full slips and dates, I'm sure he'd prove me right. This is all assuming he's running at the same track.

dude, that aint gonna do much. i did this same mod many years ago on a camry. i used flexible pipe from home depot, (like dryer duct). all u'll get is a bunch of road debris flying up w/ no gains. only if its connected like a cai will u get any real gains.
