mine was done with 3mm leds, 5000mcd.. one LED per button, 4 for the fan speed **** though.
hmm, maybe ill will try that. Which website carried them? was it lumileds.com or something like that?

sorry for the newb questions but does it matter what viewing angle the led is at? the electronics store sells leds by my house here's the spec can you tell me if this will work. thanks again. 40deg viewing angle will it give me hotspot?

you will get hot spots with almost all leds (with the exception of inverted leds and a few other types). I sanded the top of all me leds till it was flat, and the whole led itself so it disperses light evenly. As you can see from most of my pics, that worked pretty well.

ebay. SMT leds are great but realy small, superflux LEDs would be good as well...these are what ill be using to redo my cluster/climate control.

if you are referring to the climate control, no. I used to have 4000mcd and it looked like I was still using factory bulbs. That's why I upgraded to 10000mcd (that reason and that 3 of the 4 led's I had in there originally burned out).

thay may continue to happen, might need to add diodes and a regulator so they won't prematurely die. i did my gf's 99 with auto climate control, and they all burned out one by one.

did they start flickering and later burn out? I think it just may have been a bad batch of led's, because I just noticed last night that my ashtray led is out...

How long did they last on your gf's cc?

few weeks. and if you dont add a diode to certain leds (they really arent confirmed in any write up), they will die out. the ones that dont die out, had diodes built into the circuit board. just wait a bit and see if they die.. LEDs barely ever are just duds, and they last wayyy longer than standard bulbs.

Bumping this up. So you're using incandescent bulbs for the main gauge cluster illumination? And yet you still have hotspots?

i'll give you props for those needles. those look sick. haha just don't touch the positive to negative because you may not just blow a fuse, like in my case...

yes, i used polargs. The reason for the hotspots is the way the light is dispersed under the guages, via clear plastic pieces. Where the gauges are brightest are where the bulbs are located.

thanks, keeping the led aimed is a b*tch though. after awhile the tach needle led started pointing up...still have to fix it. And yea, if you cross the wires you run the chance of blowing your gauges!

I guess I'm wondering why the Polarg bulbs give hotspots but not the stock bulbs. My '99 gauges are stock and there are not discernible hotspots. So I'm guessing it's because you converted from the stock 74 bulbs to 194 size bulbs and the light dispersion is different.

the polarg bulbs are a bit taller then the 74's so they're closer to the plastic dispersion pieces. The top of the bulb also emits a brigther light than the 74's.

in reguards only to the climate control. What LED were used when this picture was taken

And then what LED were used in these. size, brightness and all that good stuff.

I love the way that looks, i'm assuming its like a 10k MCD and 3mm and how were they wired, just a simple splice in the harness?

the bulbs in the first pic are just the oem filament bulbs...in the 2nd pic, you are correct, they are 10k MCD 3mm led bulbs. I got a little creative and installed the led's and resistors into the original bulb holders.

wow, my OEM one doesn't look that dull at all compared to yours. its just my left 2 bulbs are out the one for AUTO button and stuff and the recircluation.

I'm just gonna splice like the how-to did, red cellopane sheet right to get display white?

I hate to resurrect such an old post but should I assume the door switches are also 3mm?

Also, has anyone used these for their gauge cluster as they're a twist-on like the stock bulbs? http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...s%2F74_t15.htm

Thanks
Jay
