car won't start

Yesterday, the two times my 98 maxima started, it made a high pitched whistle or whirr kind of sound, which is not usual for my car. Once it started up, I couldn't tell anything was out of the ordinary and I dismissed the noise at startup. However, in the afternoon, I was going to go out, and got in my car to start it up. The engine won't even turn over now. I don't think it's the battery because the radio and windows still work as normal, and the battery and alternator were changed under a year ago. What do you guys think the problem might be? The starter or something? And at least one oxygen sensor has been out for a while now, but I don't know whether that has anything to do w/ it. Any advise would be appreciated.

The car has about 136K miles and is an auto, if that makes a difference to anyone.

On a side note, it's also about time to change my oil. since I can't use the search to efficiently, what are some opinions on Royal Purple.

We need more info than you've given us. Could be almost anything, like a bad battery terminal contact, starter failure, or a bad ignition switch. What happens when you try to start it? What sounds do you hear, if any? When you turn the key is there any sign of current drain, like the dimming of dash lights for instance? BTW an oxygen sensor won't affect starting.

Yeah same happened to me about a year ago, starter failed in a hospital parking lot, had to spend $600 getting it towed and repaired.
