wheel bearing help....

hey guys i noticed that on my 99 i30 the pas. side wheel bearing needs to be replaced....now i have access to a shop press so i was thinking of removing the whole pass. side spindle press out the worn wheel bearing and press in the new one and im good to go...my question is when i went to the auto parts store to get a price quote the clerk asked me if i wanted the seal as well? so do i need to replace that as well? any info or tips would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

Greg

Front or rear?

I need to change the rear passenger side bearing (hub) tomorrow night on my '98. Can I get the old hub off myself by hand or with a crank pulley puller? Thanks in advance.

(Sorry, didn't want to threadjack, but I can't seem to start a new thread.)

You are going to want/need to replace the seal as well. You want your new bearing to be protected. I believe there is an inner and outer seal on the front bearings.

front bearing will need to be pressed out. inner and out seal should have the same part number.

rear wheel bearing comes with the hub assembly and you take the middle 30mm?? nut off. Easy.

I juss did front and rear on a customer's Maxima.

There is only one wheel bearing, 2 seals which are the same per side. You may want to pick up a hub just in case. My experiece has been that when a bearing goes on a Maxima it takes the hub out with it.

Im not sure if you can get the hub from Autozone. And yes, if you want to buy your parts from Autozone then just walk in and ask for them. If you can spring for the extra money I would get OEM parts for this. Its not something you would want to do again because of a cheap bearing. I just bought the hub, bearing, and seals from Dave Brunett @ South Point Nissan in Austin for $206.
