We don't have any wires on the left side I always wanted to add steering wheel audio controls, maybe I can wire those up.

Only 98, 99 I30s had this phone option, went in push out drawer under Bose headunit. These controls were on the opposite side from the cruise and controlled the phone, you just talk, no receiver. Very rare option and even harder to find this switch for it. I have only seen the phone once on ebay and never in person.

I know this is a really old thread, but I couldn't find anything other than this thread with info about the OEM car phone option. I'm not so much interested in the phone itself; more interested if my Maxima is pre-wired for hands-free operation that I can tap into? It looks like I have an OEM mic pre-installed, and I have the fuses for the OEM car phone too...

Its prolly easier/cheaper to buy a bluetooth ready head unit and use that for makin calls with your cell.

Thats what i got

looking back at my older threads, when I bought my 95 GLE, it was prewired for a phone...the little mic was ran out above the drivers door. Looked like this

Is it the same?

I'm sure it is, but if it's possible to use the pre-existing wiring, I'd def. wanna give it a try. Curious how well it works.

Bassbreaker, nope that's an aftermarket mic. The mic in my Max is circled in the pic, built into the radio/climate control console.

Ive never heard of or seen this option on ANY 4th gen, ever. It must be extremely rare. I wonder if all Maxima's/I30's with auto climate control are prewired?

Odd, I have a connector in the same area also, there was a connector type thing that sticks out of the (b-pillar? a-pillar?) but there isn't in my car to stick the wire into.

I followed the wire one time and it looked very OEM it was wrapped along with the bundles of wire into the dash. But I had a feeling it was for something aftermarket, just can't figure out what.

Dunno. Have you ever seen a Maxima with the OEM phone option? As mentioned above, mine has the speaker and fuses for it. IIRC, the phone's mentioned in the Owner's Manual too I believe. Lemme check on that and get back to ya later.

Oh and FYI, if it makes any difference, my Max has a few other options other Maximas never came with (she's a red/black 99.5 SE Limited)

Mine was hanging out of the (b-piller/ a-piller) which ever one is above my hand in the pic. I followed it one day and it led me down to under the auto climate control/radio and it was a coiled up wire with a headphone male end. The odd part was the part to connect into the phone or wherever was too small to fit a normal headphone jack. It was like it was meant for something specific...oem phone or maybe headphone jacks used to be smaller?

Probably a 2.5mm jack, which is common with cell phones 5+ years ago.

... infiniti had something called infiniti link which was like the Benz SOS.

You can use the steeringwheel volume controls from a quest or q45 (infiniti) years 98-00. They are the same as the 98+maxima. steeringwheel

I recall reading that somewhere, but I can't find ANY info on it - let alone a wiring/parts diagram for it. Starting to think this is more trouble than it's worth...

- ABS
- "Sport" suspension
- Electronically controlled front engine mount (auto)
- Liquid filled rear shock mounts
- Traction control
- OEM car phone wiring

-98-99 Deluxe Seating Package
* Front seat side air bags
* Heated front seats
* Heated outside mirrors
* Low windshield-washer fluid warning light
* Heavy-duty battery

- Security and Convenience Package (S&C)

Check the fuse box just to the left of the steering column. IIRC, there are 2 separate fuses labeled "telephone." Do you have those too?
