need to replace this on my exhaust..2 quotes so far have been ridiculous ...500 and like 900 just for the part ..i have a 96 maxima se.. where should i look for this part..i really just need part of it rewelded or cut out and another piece welded in..

is a front pipe?

If it's the y-pipe you can get one for 160 or so.

 

what do you mean by front pipe? are you refering to the pipe that comes from the front exhaust manifold?? if so why dont you just get the whole y pipe its a whole lot less than than either one of those price that you gave.

 

maybe it is the cat(which is not front), or maybe it is the y and the flex is messed up.

 

Until we get a response...does anyone else want to play the guessing game...

 

its the first pipe that comes out of the engine..and it connects in two spots to the engine.. i cant believe they will lie that bad about a friggin part ..they called it a front pipe ..midas and another garage

Does it connect to the engine (exhaust manifold) or does it connect to the exhaus manifold... From that poor picture it looks like it is the y-pipe.

So how did you discover you need to replace this item...whatever it may be?

 

my car failed the virginia safety inspection...the guy heard a leak..they put it up on the lift..and he pipe was cut and welded in an area a few feet back.. so the weld has holes in it and exhaust is leaking out... the car has 167,000 miles on it..needs new rack and pinion, brakes, rear right window is off track, new cv boots, new front axel probably, and last butnot least..i bought this car used with motegi rims.. the key for the lugnuts broke yesterday at midas..so the brakes are shot and i cant get the tires off the car to fix them til i get this part.. and motegi has no idea what im talkin bout with the part i have and the code on it.. so some dude thinks he can order it and it will fit.. if anyone wants me to explain it better ..email me or call 240-606-7185.. thanks guys.. i could use the help

The reason I ask for a picture is so that I can see if your car has an aftermarket y-pipe or if its stock. They look quite different.

If some dude thinks it will fit and do it for you, by all means, get it fixed. Your car sounds as if it is neglected.

I have wheel locks on my car, and the wheel locks are not wheel brand specific, so your call to Motegei would seem to be a waste. Your cv boots/axles can be fixed at the same time with a new set of axles since they come with boots.

For a quick bandage you can have someone weld the holes and fix it temporarily... or buy a y-pipe for less than 200$ from various vendors.

 

im goin on a biz trip tomorrow..i will take a pic once i get it up on a lift again.. im willing to bet its stock ..because it was fixed the cheap way previously by the owner before me ...the pic wont be crystal clear cuz it will be from a camcorder with built in digi cam..not high quality.. sounds like i can cut my costs in half easily.. which means i can keep this car and not buy a new one ..thanks

 

Definitely get an aftermarket front pipe (aka y-pipe, aka f-pipe), you'll cut your costs in half and gain a few extra horses....
