Intake, Yes or No?

I recently installed a short ram intake in my max, no other performance mods at all. The sound is very loud when at WOT, and also makes nice sounds when doing regular driving. My question is, does the short ram intake lose any power, I know it's good for top end, what I read from the stickies, and it also said "it's the best of both worlds." Now when I drive I can't chirp 2nd gear anymore, and I also took out the subwoofer box and everything else. Does this mean the intake lost power? I might put back my stock intake, since there's no noise, and might get my power back for chirping 2nd. What do you think?

I have a Frankencar midpipe with a K&N popcharger and I cant chirp my tires but I get lots of torque steer which is better then chirping.

I currently have a K&N short ram filter, and 19" lunkers (w/ tire weigh about 60+ lbs) on my ride chirping 2nd is not a problem. Yes, the intake will hurt your low end TQ. It's all on what your personal preference is. **Just a heads up chirping gears is not really good for your drivetrain. Wouldn't you rather have your tires hook up and pull hard?

Yeah you'll lose power especially with the summer heat coming. I would keep it b/c I like the sound and how it gives the engine some flavor.

I got a short ram and I have no problems chirping 2nd. If anything I gained a little bit pairing it up with the y-pipe. I love the sound it makes. I think sounds better than most exhausts on ricers in my opinion.

That y-pipe I'm sure helps you chirp those big wheels Me with only my intake it doesn't chirp anymore, so I'll probably hold off on the short ram until I get the y-pipe, because I like quiet

So this keeps the low end torque?

You will still some low-end, but not as much. There was a test that proved that aftermarket midpipes lose more low-end when compared to the stock midpipe.

yes, all your doing is replacing your stock filter with a cone filter....no low-end loss, better intake flow and better sound. You might want to consider getting a k&n filter with velocity stack....

The Airbox might be considered a weak link... but consider that the intake snorkel is actually somewhat useful. Notice that the shape somewhat converges towards the bottom of the intake box -- somewhat like a velocity stack.

Such things aren't even worth thinking about until you are past 5000rpms, and even then, its not really more than 5Hp difference out of 190Hp stock. And under 4000rpms, the results are virtually identical to stock. It wouldn't even make 1/10th of a second difference in 0-60mph.

The reason people think the aftermarket intakes are better is mainly because they SOUND faster, not because they really are faster.

unless you have a lot of other mods, leave the intake stock.

Hmm..must be spring...maxima.org is again sprouting intake threads.

My .02cents...leave it stock....you'll chirp your tires & have your passengers will never know how fast you're going. Then you can just grin & point to the speedo

I've read up on most of the discussions about the stock vs. aftermarket intake, and I had originally decided to keep the stock one, but I saw someone mention a "K&N Filter with Velocity Stack" and say it's similar to the stock intake... but is it any better? Within a month I should have a new catback dual exhaust and I may or may not go with a new (lighter) flywheel, so there's that to factor in too. I'm very pleased with the stock intake, but if there's anything better out there I'd love to get my hands on it. Thanks.
