Problems all fixed
The last time I posted about my 96 auto I was super pi**ed off about it. At the time I thought it was peeing both tranny fluid and motor oil. And the CEL had come back on. And it was behaving as if it didn't have a thermostat fitted.
I decided to try a guy who works from home, the main problem is he is across the other side of town, and this is one big town. But I know he's reliable.
Anyway, I gave it to him expecting a new axle seal job, possible engine-out to fix stubborn leak from TC cover area, involving recharge of A/C, plus the thermostat, a new oxy sensor, and material. Gahh! Serious financial pain.
In the event, the leak turned out to be some place down and back from the TC cover that had been bodged up with a bad gasket by the previous horror shop I've mentioned. I know many engine parts in Spanish but I couldn't translate the word he used. He fixed that without having to discharge the A/C even. Guy must have arms like an octopus.
He put a scanner on the cpu and it reported both o2 sensors bad, and bad ECT sensor. He removed and cleaned all three and the CEL stays off and the car is fine.
When I originally bought the car about 5 months ago I read o2 and KS from the ECU. I haven't replaced the KS and since the clean up the KS has disappeared. I read enough from this forum to expect that.
RPM has gone from 700 (clean TB) to 900 after the cleanup, so I guess I'll have to clean the IAC and adjust if necessary. Anyway, the car is very quick off the line now.
Total cost was under $100. Go figure.

maintain, and maintain. I talk to so many people that just put the key in the car and drive it. When it breaks down, they can't understand it. Do your regular maintance and it'll last you way longer and you'll be happier with it in the long run.
I'm glad you got all your problems sorted out as I've been following your threads. Sounds like it was a real nightmare.

Yep. First I want to get the neglected car back to normal. Then comes the time for mods... I'll start with the Y pipe. My problem is lack of time; it's not just the Max, the Villager (3rd gen motor) is crying out for attention, now. It's just as well the Sentra seems to go on for ever without any problems...
