Consult Software.

Hey,

I am working on a VQ35 conversion using the 96 ECU. Of course, I am having trouble getting it running and though I could make use of the CONSULT port to diagnose.

I see a number of cable/software packages on the internet, but wanted to get some reccomendations from people with Maxima experience.

So.. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Marc

Are you talking about getting the 3.5 running with the 96 ECU and the 3.0 timing and intake components? Of course you know that the 96 ECU will not support the variable intake or cam timing.

Yes, I know. I converted all of the timing stuff to the VQ30, as well as the flywheel and other components as discussed in the "motor" forum on this site.

I did not know this was possible.. I was told the VQ35 ECU needs lots of "stuff" to operate.. Essentialy the whole rest of the car! If it is possible to use the VQ35 ECU, I sure did waste a lot of time and money making it look like a VQ30!

But still.. Anyone have a suggestion for Consult Link software?

Yes you are correct. You will need most of the 3.5 car to make it work, so you did the right thing there.

As for the consult software, what are you trying to do? Just get the thing running correctly? Any generic scan tool will be able to help you diagnose sensors and things that may be causing your problems. After all, what you basically have is a 96 Maxima as far as the ECU is concerned.

I believe there are only 2 Consult I hardware tools available. I am using the PLMS and the other is the BlaZt,(edit after MarcL's post) functionally I believe they are identical. The OBDII there are dozens.

Currently I am using Nissan Data Scan which I believe is the best for Consult I. However I also have Conzult-SX, Ztalk, CalumSult and Tecu plus a couple for my OBDII reader as well.

I'm still playing but I wouldn't make any changes that you don't know the consequences. Although remember none of the changes you make remain after the vehicle is shut off, not like Consult II.

I particularly like the speed test 0-xx and now on the newest version of Nissan Data Scan 1.5 it has a xx-xx speed test so you can set it at whatever speed you want. Should be really good for comparing changes because you can use a rolling start so no variations in traction and because its starts and stops automatically there is no operator error for times.
