Scratch on Dash

Hello Folks,

After taking out the bracket for the stereo, i ended up putting a surface scratch in my dash (the squishy part) but when i try to rub it out, it seems to make it worse. Any ideas for me? I really dont want to get a parted out dash...way too much work for this little of a scratch. But u know us maxima freaks...one scratch is enough to make u insane.

Thanks for any ideas to help!

HallKemar,

I was simply asking if someone else ever ran into this and if they knew what works and what doesnt to help take out a scratch on the dash.

I'll post pictures tomorrow but I don't expect your help Newb. Frankly, I dont give a s*** what your car looks inside however I do care about mine, thats the difference between me and you; not male or female.

I thought the point of maxima.org is to help one another...not bash them. Thanks for your childish reply though.

if your taking about a scratch that is deep (a filler is all your left with to fix, but will always show).

If is only the surface try to buff it, at a detail shop

Other wise, junkyards are the next stop to save some $$$

Calm Down, Im here to work your nerves. When I scratched my dash I simply went to Autozone and bought a leather patch.

this all depends on how deep the scratch is and what material it is in. Is it deep, is it in plastic or leather?

if it's a shallow plastic scratch, there are plenty of plastic polishers at autozone that may help. Check the detailing forum.

Ok, thanks for all the input. Below is a picture of the scratch. I know it's not deep but it's very irritating to look at everytime I get into my car.

Do you think a leather patch would fix this or should I just bring it to a detail shop?

Thanks.

This comes from a guy who posted a thread asking for help with the following description:

if all hoses are secured properly, should i just change the oil pan?

Just take it easy on the .org and people will respect you.

this is a good question, i have a few annoying scratches on my dash. I was thinking of wet sanding (high grit) them since plastic polishes did nothing for me.

lol, fact that sparkyssb was so offended by the noobs comment was because she IS female.... but still, that picture doesn't seem to look that bad, if u could get it at another angle so we can see exactly HOW deep it is, is it like a centimeter deep? gotta know, if its not that bad, u can probably patch it up... if u could take another angle shot it might give us a better picture...

don't take it to the shot, they'd take advantage of u just for the fact that ur a girl... if u want go to autozone, maybe they can help u, but still... it looks like something you can do urself, so if u can, don't spend any unnecessary money...

Your hear to work our nerves? HAHA funny. How about us old-timers flame you everytime you ask for help? You think you'll get very far in the org then? Calm down kid!

sparkyssb,

There's really no way to completely cover up a scratch like that, unless you paint the entire dash. Next time you work on your dash, cover the immediate areas up with a beach towel. You'll eventually forget about the scratch you have on there now.

Screatches

That part, on my car is the hard plastic and not the padded stuff. You dont need to replace the entire dash to fix it. However, any part you get probably wont match exactly anyways.

When I get stuff like this I wait 3 weeks to calm down and if I still am bothered by it that much, Id look at replacing the panel. Otherwise all you can do is keep rubbing crap like Vinyl Renew on it to make it wet looking.

wet sanding will do nto anything but make it smooth inwhich our dashs are kinda ridgid. try a mr.clean magic eraser( i do not know how it will react with black) and maybe it wil take the lighter color out, ut relly there is not much to do.

you could try one of those burning kits which geta a little plate really hot and you rub it melting the dash back together but i do not know if i would try that. just some ideas
