It's a real PITA trying to solder onto the tiny PCB board pins, but in the end it works. I've done it to my '96, and it's really neat.

trust me ive soldered harder things than that. exposed pins covered with solder like those are a cakewalk to solder to.

now... soldering to a dot the size of the point of a needle thats laquired over... that, is hard.

soon as i find a bit of time(probably soon) ill do it and make a thread.

It's a bit of a PITA, but it's doable. If you want good ipod connectivity then you should get something like the belkin ipod car charger with aux output, makes it much cleaner if you're willing to hide the wires and such.

i was planning to use my actual ipod dock with the ipod connector on the back and a line out. then i can use any ipod i want minus a shuffle... which would have to dangle.

yeah thats fine, but the line levels are still going to be different. The belkin charger has a line out and built in amp so that you don't need to crank the volume on the headunit to hear anything. Then it's all rca jacks from there. You could do it all internally and hide it in front of the shifter inside the dash. Then run left and right audio, and the charger portion to the iPod dock.
