Pinion n rack should i replace anyone ??

Pinion n rack should i replace anyone ??

Thru past month my 96 (286 000km) gxe devlop a rattle groning grinding noise when i was turning shaply
and
I felt my steering kinda loose

so i went to get my car check and aligned

the guy shake the weels in every angles and shown me the tie rod that connected to the pinion is moving up and down

he said i need a new pinion and rack not sure its how we spell it
anyways he says 1100$ can installed for a rebuilt one

And now i am like should i try to replace that myself of is it suiicide

And I have been reading post about the 99' one is better

anyway tell me what u guys think

I saw someone on eBay that sells the steering assembly for under $300 US.

Might want to get the part from him and have your mechanic install it.

Your inner tie rods are designed to do that, but they could be worn out.
I would replace the inner tie rods first, and see if that hepls, before replacing entire steering rack.

Replacing my inner tie rods made a huge difference in steering wheel feel.

Just order them from ebay, and install yourself. Look for the write up in my sig

Yhea maybe i should get it a try ,

but i dont think my clunk clounk sound , come from the tie rod tough

I like your suspension mod , I migh take this as a chance to get my suspension /steering tighter
