Trunk floor

Hey guys.

So I pulled the trunk carpet outa my max today and took it into woodshop with the intent to build a floor for my trunk so that my sub will stop "sinking" into the whole for my spare tire. I put the carpet on a piece of 1/4 partical board and cut it out to shape. , Then it hit me when I was trying to squeze it into the trunk "This thing isnt gona fit threw the trunk jam". Anyway.......So i got this sweet floor for my trunk that doesnt fit in. Anyone build something to give there floor alittle more support other than that flimsy cardboard that nissan gave us? I was thinkin of tracin that and cuttin the wood to that shape? The trunk isnt exactly smooth so i kinda wana give it a nice flat floor for my sub to sit on, and then screw some L-bracets in it to hold the box in place.

Any ideas would be cool?

I used 1/2 inch mdf and did it in two pieces with a hinge so I could still access the spare. Works great. Piano hinges work better and smoother. I've done 6 of these.

You guys are clever

Now did u cut the peice vitically or horizontal? And does your sub make the wood rattle? I was thinkin of maybe either stapeling or screwing the carpet to whatever floor i come up with and then putting some velcro strips on the carpet and bottem of the sub to hold it in place

Any other ideas?

Across from one side of the car to the other. It will all go in as one piece when you fold it. You can use some of that 3M spray adhesive to keep the carpet down to the wood. I dont have any problems with vibrations from my subs. I know that the wood is trimmed a little smaller in certain areas so that it doesnt come in contact with the carpeted fender lining.
I'll take a pic and pm it to you in just a bit.

yea jncoracer basically said what i was going to. cut it in half and throw a hinge on the bottom of it so it folds in half. then put it in the trunk and unfold it. seems to work in my head lol

i wish i wasnt lazy and would acually make a cutout for my trunk...i just took the biggest piece of wood i had that would in in the trunk and tossed it in the trunk then threw my subs on it lol.

Dont mind the oil spot on my carpet. That will be getting changed soon.
It's 1/2" thick MDF. Like I told NewEngSurf, If you have a sub enclosure in your trunk measure the distance between the box and the trunk latch BEFORE you cut the wood, otherwise hinging the floor will be all for nothing. Also, a little bit more will need to be trimmed off the sides of the part that raises up or it will catch on the carpeted fender cover. Handles are optional.

Your my hero. This is exactly i want mine to look like so i think im gona steal ur idea if you dont mind. but if i remember correctly, the floor wouldnt fit in horizontally? im probly gona trim it down.
Anyway, your floor is just being held down by the weight of the sub?

Nope its own weight holds it down which is probably less that 8lbs. The thing never moves even when I take the sub out. Its kind of wedged in towards the front and back so when I close the floor lid it feels like it clicks in place. Less than $30, actually I think it was closer to $20.

SDB318 that is a clean axx trunk with the subs. You can still access your sapre too. Wow. Is that your trunk or one you found on the net? If it is, I have to ask, "Do the subs rock?" They don't seem to have that much space to hit too hard.
