Intermittent no-start when key is turned

I've had this problem for probably about a year now, but it seems to get progressively worse very slowly. When I insert the key into the ignition and turn it, sometimes there is no response whatsoever. The car has always started eventually after several turns. I'm guessing something in the ignition switch is not making contact properly to start the car? How and what can I do to check this? Thanx in advance.

it's a pretty common occurence actually. The ignition can be replaced, and it will solve your problems. Just go find a new one at a salvage yard or something. Also, if you turn your key to the "on" position, wait for a small clicking sound coming from underneath the dash. The sound is a relay turning on....then proceed to turn the key to start the car. My Max does the same thing, and I've found that I just hafta wait for that little click from the relay, and then it will start up without any delay.

mine used to do the same thing, but instead of turning the key back and forth on and off again, just turn it all the way to the starting position and if it doesnt turn over wiggle the key , usually i held it downwards and it started

This is the sign of a bad iginition switch:
Part # is 48750-1E411, $24.19 from nissanparts.cc plus about $9 shipping. List price is $31.75, so if your not buying something else, go to your local dealer (shipping stays the same up to about $80 worth of stuff).

Thanx for the replies. Is there a link to a how-to for replacing the ignition switch?

Also, replacing the switch doesn't require new keys does it?
