Help with my 97max (grinding noise)
Hey guys I need some major help here. I just replaced both of my control arm, and now I get this weird grinding noise when I'm reversing and turning the wheel. Also I got this grinding noise when I was making a left turn going about a normal turning speed. I'm trying to upload the video clip with this funky grinding noise but it is not working well.
As I was thinking it might be my trans going (136,xxxmiles) cause every time you turn the two front wheels turn at different rates right? Even when you go backwards.
Help me out guys thanks.

hmm it's really not helping but atleast I'm not the only one. I was thinking it maybe my differential bearing going. Also when I was putting back my axle/CVshaft I had a extremely hard time popping it back in. I had to tap it in exactly. Thanks for your input, anyone else?

anyone? I'm getting my car checked out at my local shop, so I don't know what is actually wrong with it until he gives me words on what might be wrong. I'm just guessing it is my differencial bearing.

I can't see the vid cuz I'm at work but I would check axles, power steering fluid, bearings and go back to the control arm and make sure everything is installed properly. Maybe it has something to do with it since it appeared right after you installed them.
BTW sometimes with broken axles they will only manifest during driving conditions under load, not when the car is up, maybe a reason you couldn't replicate it when you put the car up on jack stands

I had the problem before I changed the lower control arms but it wasn't as bad. (forgot to mention that). After I finished installing them I took it for a drive and it was almost perfect, with the grinding noise still to be heard. Then after a while the noise grew and it's unbareable now.
The reason for changing the lower control arms were the bushing were bad, and I thought that maybe it was the cause of the soft grinding noise. Assuming that the car's weight shifts for one side to the other when you make turns, making the lower control arms with almost no bushing left to grind/move.
But even after replacing the lower control arms I still got the same noise, but right now it is even worse then ever.
I check the power steering fluid, rechecked the lower control arms and see if it were tightened enough.
what some signs of broken axle? Not by noise but by feel? I took out my axle to replace my lower control arm cause it was easier without that thing hanging there. and they seemed fine. Also my local shop checked out the axle and he didn't say anything. Either way right now my car is at the local shop getting checked out again.
Also NYC_Maxima97 you have a nice looking max there.

A broken axle will certainly make noise on turns and on bumps. Again I didn't see the video so I don't know the nature of this noise but i would def check the axle. It eventually becomes so bad they you'll hit the gas but the car won't move.
Thanks for the compliment, it's my dad's car now, I only drive it in the snowy days when my M3 can't even get out of the driveway.
