LSD driveshafts (axles)
LSD driveshafts (axles)
Hi everyone, Im new here and just picked up a 97 Infiniti I30t... I need to replace both the front axles and have had some trouble locating axles for the LSD tranny.... where have you purchased axles from?? any brands to stay away from??
On a better note, this seems to be a GREAT car! very smooth powerband and tranny... im selling my 02 altima right now, and i must say that the I30t is just as nice with twice as many miles! i bought the I30t with 153k on it, all maintenance records and simply runs great..... the interior is IMMACULATE!! with all options..
Im liking it. $4500 well spent

Definately don't skimp out and buy remanufactured axles especially if you plan on lowering sometime. Always heard only good things from Raxles, that's where my next ones are going to be from!
yup, DON"T BUY REMANUFACTURED!!!!! i bought one of them, changed it, was bad, exchanged it was bad, sick and tired of wasting my time, returned it and sent it back.
NOTE: don't send your core back until you know everything is fine.

I agree. Dont return the core till everything is fine.
I return a core, then the new axle caused bad vibrations, called them and told them to not return the core so I can return the new axle and get my money back. Got in there, and they sent it back. I kicked up a fuss and they returned my money, took their core back, plus paid me for the core, so luckily it was alll good.

I've never had a problem with remanufactured axles, and between the 3 maximas I've owned over the past years I've changed many of them.
The passenger side axle for your car is the same as the open differential axle, there is no difference between the LSD and open diff cars for the PASSENGER side axle. The driver's side axle is LSD specific. I purchased my last LSD axle from Napa, and the one previous to that from someone on here.
You can use either a 95-99 LSD axle or a 2001 LSD axle on the driver's side of your car, I have used both and they are the same.

I'll second nealoc187's comments. I also have owned 3 Maximas (a 90, a 95 and a 96) and have put almost half a million miles on them. I have changed 5 axles. I have always used remanufactured ones from the local parts house (Autozone or O'Reilly). No problems (I did have to replace one twice, but I got over 100,000 miles from the reman I had to replace).
In all cases, I had no failures of joints themselves, but torn boots. I don't believe in putting on the split boot repair kits -- there's simply no way of knowing how much of the grease left the boot, and I don't want a failure when I'm on the road.
I looked at raxles website and those appear to be remanufactured axles to me. New CV joints on them, but that's what I got on the ones I bought, too.
