exhaust leak

got a leak where it connects to the muffler. I bought a sealer that you apply to the crack and let it sit for 3 hours. It says it has a weld finish.LOL

What do you guys think? Anyone ever used a product like this?

It's not going to last. muffler take quite a bit of abuse (ie. if the sealer is not elastomeric, it'll crack from vibrations; if the sealer is heat-sensitive, it may melt off, burn, or give off poisonous fumes; if the muffler wasn't prepped properly and/or because the sealer is exposed extreme temperature changes, the sealer won't stay on the muffler)

I see. I did get it from autozone and it's in a shiny silver tube. The manufacturer is VersaChem. I'll give it a try, the heat today is almost unbearable.

update

OK, it's not a leak. it disconnected. Now i don't know if it will be strong enough to hold the 2 pipes together. The package says it will become stronger with ADDED heat.

That sounds like a much better approach but it's disconnected where the pipe meets the muffler. There's no way to really connect the coupler to the muffler.

OEM Muffler?

The muffler is cracked on my 95 Maxima SE, but the local Midas says that they can't get a hold of a real Nissan Maxima muffler. The Nissan dealer wants $500 to replace it. I see some mufflers online from a company called Bosal for about $100 that claims to be for my Max. Anyone know if these things are legit?

The only muffler that I saw on their site that fit my Maxima was in a $230 kit. I'm just interested in replacing the muffler, but I don't want to pay a dealer to do it. I've been told that you can't buy after-market mufflers from anyone else, though. Can anyone clear this up for me?
