I have 7000K. It was exactly what I wanted. It wasnt too much blue and they were bright as hell.

8000k HIDs suck azz. 4100-4300k puts out the most light.

Don't mean to steal the spotlight but while we're on the topic of HID's

Is the fuzzy/blurry housing of 95-96 headlamps enough to reduce HID glare? or will it still glare like hell and get me pulled over?

agreed. 4100-4300 is the best for visibility ... anything higher is just for looks and the visibility goes down the higher you go.

I got 8k hids and its a nice looking esp from far away. but light out put isn't that great compared to 4300k etc... but its still far better then regular bulbs.

But if I'd do it all over I'd probably get 6k instead because its the best of both worlds *looks & lighting.

I have the 6000k bi-xenons and I'm verry happy with the light output. They are a blueish tint. But I'll be the first to say that I would rather have 4300k.

how do you reduce glare without resorting to projectors?

Use D2R bulbs and modding the bulb base so they'll fit inside ur headlamps.

I would go 6000k the highest. anywhere from 4300-6000k gives good visibility.

Good thread but lets ponder this any HID is displacing more light than any halogen could dream of. So the loss of light isnt much. Now will it attract attention yes but it does look good. I've had several sets of HIDs. I've had 12K, 10K, 8K, and 6K. All were good but i think the 10Ks were the best they had some color to look good and were really bright. I honestly say do what you wish with HIDs just make sure you'll be happy because at 300-500 a pop it aint cheap

Hey Poowill did you just install them without any changes to avoid glaring? If so do people give you a lot of $hit at night?

Just aim your headlights correctly and they won't go into anyone's eyes on a flat road, but sometimes $hit happens.

They are pointed and aimed down a bit. Yeah i get a few flashes but i live in a town where they're all old and never seen bright lights before. But yeah you aren't going avoid all the glare without a retrofit. I know there was a housing that i think someone found out of a volvo housing that worked alright, but involved some modding of the headlamp.

That doesn't get rid of glare. That just avoids pointing the light directly at people.

Exactly. Can't get rid of the glare without projectors, but a shield atleast is better than running the capsules by themselves in the housing.
