Maxima won't start.......help!!

Hey guys,

Unlike most starting problems, I don't think this one has anything to do w/ the engine at all. When I put my key and put it to the "ON" position, everything functions as normal. When I turn the key all the way to start the car, it does not crank sometimes. Usually I have to move the key up and down inside the ignition cylinder while the key is turned, and then the car will crank. My suspicion is that something is not making contact somewhere in the ignition cylinder (is that what it's called or am I making that name up?). Anybody have any ideas??

I am 98.234% sure that it is your ignition switch...$40 or so at autozone, easy to install. need a screwdriver and patients. same thing happened to me, good luck.

Isn't there a special tool to get the ignition switch off? I thought they made that hard to prevent theft?

You guys were right, ignition switch. Got it for 30 bucks at Carquest and all is well once again. For the record, both of the screws that hold the ignition switch in are phillips, not torx (star point). Thanks for your help guys
