new taillights question

Just put in Altezza Euro taillights. Plugged everything in. The side light is a clear bulb - on the stock light it shows up under a red reflector. On the Altezza Euro's it appears white. What gives? Is this legal? OR do I need to buy a red bulb?

Can you post a picture? I am sort of lost with what you are saying.

One of the bulbs is suposed to be white because of it being a back up light. Turn signals are supposed to be amber or red, and brakes are supposed to be red.

You need to go buy a red or amber bulb. The stock lights had the red reflector over it so it turned it red... your tail lights should have come with the correct lights you need for the install. But you need a red or amber bulb. It is worthless if it is clear. Now if it is a reverse light that is one thing.

Sorry,no pics. There is a backup light (white). The light I am talking about wraps around the side. DukeDuke seems to make sense about the whole thing.

Duke makes sense because it's true. The stock bulb is clear...just like most stock bulbs in the car. The red is a reflector so you need a red bulb in that spot.

One question...........Why are you putting ricer lights on a beloved Maxima? Unless your going to do the skyline mod?

I just changed all my lights to amber. Had clears in front and red/clears in back with all white bulbs. Just went to the auto place and bought some bulbs and put them in. Took like 5 mins to change the 4 bulbs. And no its not legal to have clear blinker lights.

You are being punished by a higher power for trying to put Altezzas on your car.

When I bought mine and took them off, I did see that the corner running light had been changed to yellow. I simply pulled the bulb and taped up the socket and left it in the trunk cavity when I installed my red/clears. You can do that or swap it to a yellow bulb.

OK lets set this straight, is the bulb in question a tailight bulb that would be on constant when lights are on, or simply a turn signal? if it's a turn signal you dont need to change it, the law is that you may have NO rearward facing white lights running constant, they have to be intermittent or reverse lights.

The lights he's talking about are on the outer tailights in the lower outside corners. They are on constantly when the lights are on. They're just rear side marker lights and don't have anything to do with the turn signals or the backup lights.

Get some red bulbs to put there. #194 I think.

I know which light you are talking about. As DukeDuke said, get a red bulb. I suggest getting 194 Red LEDs. They will stay red. My Red 194 bulbs ended up white again.

You dont have to get red bulbs there.... if anything you can totally unplug it and it dont do anything, if it is indeed the light im thinking about. I just got red/clears and now have the stock bulb there so they appear that ugly yellow white.
