Let me start out by saying I have never done this, so take it as you will. But wouldn't vise grips work? Or will the pinch/bend the line?

VG's will work but then the fitting should NOT be reused. The fittings are soft metal, i believe brass, and will get damaged. So basically if you use vice gribs you will most likely have to

a) buy a new breakline assembly or
b) replace the fitting which requires cutting the break line, put on a new fitting and re-flare the end with a brake line flare. this will shorten the breakline, making life difficult.

what you need is a set of fitting wrenches, hey are shaped differently to hug all edges. A set at advance auto is bout 14 bux

Using the correct tools would have prevented that.
You need a flare wrench to work on brake lines.

Buy another fitting. Cut off the hardline just behind the rounded fitting. Slip on a new fitting. Use a flare tool to reflare the hardline. Done and done. Besides the hardline being about an inch shorter, it's good as new. At the worst, you may have to use a zip tie, or some metal wire to secure the now slightly shorter hardline to the mounting tab.
