A/C blows just air(checked the stickies)

Hey guys, my A/C blows just air. How can I find a leak or is it just easier to replace all the tubes and hoses? How much all this would be(parts)?Thank you.

My A/C was just doing the same thing. I didn't have any leaks. I replaced the compressor, filter/drier, expansion valve. Works good now, but was expensive! $280 for compressor, $111 for filter/drier, $40 for expansion valve, and $50 for recharge. I did everything but the recharge myself. Have fun!

What else is an A/C supposed to blow out other than air? Buy a recharge kit, the one I bought comes with a black light to check for leaks.

wow thats pretty expensive, is all that really nessasary, there must be just one common failer to change out so you don't have to do all this...

If the compressor goes bad it is generally recommended to replace the other parts.

My '96 Maxima is having a similar problem and I just got a quote from the dealer to replace all the same parts for $1250. How hard is it to do this myself? Also, my problem is that the A/C only blows cold sometimes. After I first start the car in the morning it is only slightly cool air, but if I turn the car off, wait 10 or 15 minutes and then start it up again it blows VERY cold and will continue to do so until I turn it off again. Dealer says the compressor is bad but how can that be if it blows that cold some of the time?

The dealer told me $2000. They wanted $800 just for the f'ing compressor. Taking off the parts and putting the parts on were fairly easy. Finding the right parts for my 97 was extremely difficult. Your 96 probably won't be as difficult to find parts. My A/C slowly stopped cooling so I don't know what yours is doing. I would take it to a place and have the freon evacuated and refilled.

Sounds like it's just the freon. Do it yourself, save the money. The kit cost me $30 and took me 10 minutes to do.
