Leaky Sunroof?

Well, I've read plenty of threads about fixing a broken sunroof with the tracks and all, but I havn't read one about fixing a leaking sunroof when it rains. (Could be the same problem though, but just getting opinions) My problem is that my sunroof falls below the roof level, preventing it from fully sealing up when its in the closed position. The sunroof works perfectly, except for this small problem. When I open it and close it, you can actually see it drop down from its original position. Looks to me like the brackets that hold the sunroof to the track are worn out or something, I dont know though. Any thoughts or fixes?

You need to remove the sunroof and reinstall it so it fits flush with the roof when completely closed.

hmm, well then how would the sunroof get so out of place? Years of use? Man, that kinda sucks, but I guess it might not be that hard of a job, just time consuming...

Your guess is as good as mine. Perhaps it needs to be cleaned? Either way the sunroof needs to come out. My friend and I fixed the sunroof on his 96 with the sunroof repair kit (sunroof would not close all the way) and once you have it all togather you have to manually set the sunroof so it fits flush with the roof.

It sounds like it may need to be realigned. There is a "timing mark" on the sunroof motor that if lined up properly, the roof should be closed flush. The only thing else I can think of would be where the two arms on the trailing edge of the roof travel? (the arms that help it tilt UP)...there are rollers on the end of each arm and they in turn fit into two small "ramps". Maybe one of those is missing. Either way, the sunroof has to come out to check. I MAY have some of those "ramps" somewhere from when I redid my roof. I can either take a picture or if I have them I'll send them to you if you need them.

Mine sits the same way....someone on here told me it was normal. Trying getting an air compressor and blowing air down the tracks towards the drain tubes. Sometimes dirt gets backed up in there. This is what I did, and havent had a leak since.

Sounds like it might need to be realigned or something may be "blocking" it from fully coming up? Just a thought.

The glass of the sunroof has four bolt that hold it to the brackets but you might need to remove the plastic pieces that cover them. Check to see if there are some spacers that sit in between the bracket and the glass. You can try to insert one or two more around the back of the glass to see if that works for you, I tried it and it worked farely well. Hopefully that was the same problem you had. Try a salvage yard to see if you can obtain some.

If the sunroof isn't completely closed the drain tubes should route the water down into A-pillar and out the bottom of the fender.

Does anybody know if the sunroof is completely closed is it possible to still have water get into the drain tubes?
