Starting Problem, back fire, etc... :'(

Hi,

I already post my problem, but i got no ansews.

Well, Ive just change my tranny ( 5speeds), car works great before the removal, but now I have serious problems.

When I'm starting, it take about 6 seconds before the engine starts. I have back fire in my exhaust. BUT, when the engine runs, everything's fine. Except not burn gas smell.

I got engine's code myself, maybe its the problem?

#1 : EGR system Hi/low flow (03 04)
#2 : knock sensor (03 02)

Thanks

grounding is your problem. run a 10 gauge wie from one of the bolt on the tranny (bottom 12mm), and one of the starter bolts, and you should be golden. The same thing happened to me.

Ive just clean up all my oem groun, AND Ive install a grounding kit 8.

One wire goes on the starter directly, one on the throttle, one on the inhectors and one on the frame near the driver side shock.

Thanks a lot

What about my EGR code? Big deal or not?

My code comes ALWAYS when Im shifting my 3 at 60 mph 6000 rpm. This problem wasnt there before the swap.

Thanks

I have pulled the motor out removed timing housing, to replace the orings. Now a few days later car has same problem listed above. Going to try a ground. But what about the guy from texas that stated nissan had wiring issues in the 97-98 maxima. I own both years. the 97 is the one having issues. any help would be great. first time poster.

The most important ground would be the starter to the negitve cable.

it must not be that big of a concern for my daughter, told her about the grounding issue. still has not showed up for me to fix. It must be a good ground when installed from factory, then when we pulled motor away from trans, it needsto have a good clean ground. thank you for youre replys. Hay good luck to you gassian also.

that would be cause 12 gauge wire isnt big enough, electricity takes the path of least resistance, the ground from the battery to the block has 4 or 8 gauge wire, you NEED to go bigger to get any kind of improvement

I have a similar problem as well. Sorry, don't want to hi-jack anybody's thread but this problem has been pretty annoying. Two misfires, knock sensor,
a realllly annoying starting problem (takes majority of the time 3-7 starts to start!), and I have 2 o2 sensors out which I'm sure contributes to my 220-230a tank mpg. I replaced my MAF also because it was out. My main two problems I'm worried about is the two misfires and the starting problem. Oh, right, this is a 'new' motor because old one was messed up. So I'm guessing whoever has done the swap sucked *** but if it is just grounding for the starting issue then where to ground? I'm new to the maxforums. And for my misfires, I've replaced the plugs to NGK-Rs but I was wondering about the coil packs? What voltage range should they be in? Also, my ECU is gay cuz the lil screw where you do the CEL procedure is broken because I can go either direction forever. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for everybody's time. Sorry about the hi-jacking, can't post new threads yet.

starter sounds weak, now no start.

over the past 10 days i noticed the car was not strating right up. yesterday after having driven a few miles and returned home. the engine would not start again. (i do not hear any sound of fuel pump) but the starter motor sounds weak. headlights are strong so i feel battery is good. when i turn key to start, the starter sounds weak...as if the car battery was not sending good voltage. i put the key in the on position, and touched a screwdriver across the two bolts on the 'thingy' attached to the starter motor! the thingy sounded good (kind of high pitch) but the starter motor did not seem to get a good turn. anyone have an idea of what the problem is? thx.

95 max. 61,000 miles. original starter!
