Old dude, why'd you hit my Max - and then drive off?

Not a whole lot of drama to this story - but what the hey:

So I'm leaving this golf place, and walking out to my car using the key fob to roll down the windows - when I notice that the passenger side window ain't going down all the way. Then as I get closer, I spy a note placed under a wiper. "Oh great!", I says, "Another random hottie left me her phone number." (Which totally happens to me all the time ).

But no, sadly the note says, hey - we saw some old dude back into your car, come into the pro-shop, we'll be happy to be witnesses. Here's the damage.

So I called the The cop arrives and says, "See? This is what happens when yous **** off a real gangster!" No - actually the cop shows up and runs the plate number of the car that the witnesses wrote down. He recieves some info his radio ear bud and starts chuckling as he's writing something into his notebook. He tells me, "The registrant for that plate's date-of-birth came back as 1913." A few moments later I'm like, "HE'S 93 YEARS OLD?!?"

Honestly, I'm up for giving the responsible party ONE shot to make this write - after that, I'm afraid I'll have to contact my insurance company and let them raise my rates, er, I mean; handle it.

I'm not too mad - I mean what can you do? I'm very fortunate to have had two witnesses that left me a note. I'm hoping to be able just to have it pulled, but if the pwr window's damaged - this could get real expensive for somebody. Could have been a lot worse if they'd have backed into me either a foot forward or back from where they did.

Honestly, you might be doing society and his family a favor if you followed through and reported it.

Some really old folks refuse to admit they aren't up to driving anymore, and the family might be relieved deep down if this helps push the matter.

If the guy doesn't realize he hit something, you may be see him on TV, killing someone because he pulled out in front of traffic. You'll be doing the next person a big favor.

i would definatly hold the old dude responsible, as it should be, I mean if he hit you and just drove away its either one of 2 things,

1 - an intentional hit and run, he knew he hit you and didnt want to get caught
2- he didnt know he hit you and therefor is not a safe driver, and shouldnt still be on the road

id def. report it
just my .02

i got good grades junior year of high school, parents put a down payment on pearl white maxima for me in September. Only six weeks later, going through a green light, got t-boned by an old lady. Totalled my maxima and hurt like hell. Airbag jacked me up. The lady was in her 80's and looked like she was in her hundreds.
I went and spent a few months w/ a chiropractor getting messages and racked up a $2,500 bill. Her insurance payed it, bought the car, and gave me an additional $2,500 to settle. I put that $2,500 into a down payment on my current maxima, my grades sucked by then so no help from my parents second time around.

Bottomline: no pity for old people and their bad driving habits. That lady could have killed me just because she couldn't see that her light was red.

lol, naw that would've sucked really bad. it was a burgundy 97 camry, I remember that too well. The collision totaled her car right back.
if it were a caddy she probaly would have totaled my car and prolly kept on cruising like a bat out of hell.

godd damn that must of hurt! I would hate to see what an explorer would do to a civic at 50mph.
I remember back and everyone at the scene of the accident was surrounding the old lady to see if she was alright. The only person that approached me was the one guy that witnessed it, he gave me his number and told me he saw her run the red light. Everyone else thought it was the punk kids fault, me. Even the cops were giving me a little attitude at first. Everything got settled in my favor though and I got paid.

Trust me that old SOB knew he hit you LMFAO! Why would u even consider paying for it out of your own pocket, make his insurance pay that's what it's for.

You could collect probably $600 or so from their insurance company and THEN have it popped. Their insurance company will have you get an estimate and fax or mail it to them and they will write you a check for whatever it is, then fix it your self.

yeah, he prolly did it on purpose. He prolly saw you driving around, maybe too fast in his opinion, and took justice into his own hands.

That pic right there is why I think SUVs and lifted trucks are making the roads much more dangerous than they should be. See how the frame under the doors is entirely untouched? If that was a car that hit you, the doors wouldn't have taken all the impact, and it wouldn't have been as bad.

So then imagine if that was one of those super-jacked hickmobiles with the bumper around eye level. If I was ever hit by a mf'r in one of those things, I'd sue them up and downtown for driving a weapon.

theres actually a dent on his hood from where my head snapped to the right and then back left and hit the hood. I got really lucky and there was only a mild concusion due to it. Combine the concusion with torn tendons and muscles, a fractured knee cap, and 3+ months off work (majority paid until now) and you have a good case against his insurance and my work comp insurance. I was willing to settle until his insurance told me, and i quote, "you have no right or claim to pain and suffering as a result of this particular accident".

Now my lawyer will handle it =]

i'd report it. maybe his ins. co will drop him and he wont be able to drive any more. not trying to be mean but i've had my car hit by an old lady while it was parked. even if you dont have to pay for repairs its still gonna suck to have to take your ride in to the shop for a couple days.

Your rates will not go up b/c you got hit while you were parked. Dont worry about it, just report it. As long as it's not a habit of getting you cars hit while parked often.

Depends on your insurance company. Sometimes your rates will go up simply if a claim is filed, even if you were not at fault or nowhere near the car. Mine went up 500.00 a year when i had to make a claim for damage in a parking garage while i was shopping.

I haven't contacted anybody yet. I'm still waiting for the Police to finish the incident report, it's supposed to take up to 72 hours (and right know it's been 90 hours). They want $3 for a copy of it to boot!

Anyways - I am not the arbitrator o' justice - John Law will decide if he gets a ticket. I just want my gawdam car fixed (and maybe get a nice exterior detail thrown in).

I've had a few estimates done:
One professional looking joint says I need a new door = $1350 all together (including full polish and hand wax).

Maaco wants to replace the panel for $950 (no extras).

And Joe Blow around the corner quoted $600 for a pop, polish, and the use of a loaner for 3 days.

I'm not sure a puller will be able to do it - the guy at Dent Doctor told me to go to the body shop down the road. I drove buy, and to be honest I was afraid to get out of my car at this place. There was actually a huge male pitbull getting a tattoo of a pile of meth in the middle of the parking lot. I'll keep looking.

This is all just turning into a giant pain in the butuky.

Almost P!ssed my pants.
I got backed into in a parking lot by an old lady. She just slammed on the gas and hit me going really fast in reverse. I was stopped and honked and she just kept going. She told the cop that she couldn't see me. Funny thing is I saw her eyes looking at me through her rearview mirror. Luckily the insurance paid for everything.

I would def. report this.
