exhaust leak?

I am losing a small amount of throttle response in the lower rpm range (<2k) and i am hearing an odd resonance under 3k that I don't normally hear. I can actually hear a sound which sounds like a lower-pitch version of my intake above 3k rpm. I am pretty sure my exhaust is leaking somewhere because when I shut the car off and start it I get a slight shudder from what feels like the exhaust pipes under the car. What's the quickest, most cost-effective way to trace an exhaust leak? I am trying to assess whether the leak is pre-cat, cat, or cat-back.

You may hear a pretty audible hiss on WOT.

Otherwise you can try putting water on each connection.

If it has been leaking for awhile there may be a white discoloration at the leak. I had a leak at the cat in another car and this was present.
