How to replace steering wheel?(couldn't find in the stickies)

Hey guys, I got the new steering wheel since my leather is all ripped off, got the puller, and I wonder if there is anything else I need and the procedure of replcing the wheel itself. Thank you.

Yes I know that I have to disconnect the battery and wait like 10 min, but do I need any other special tools to do that? Like something to remove airbag or anything? Thank you.

Like I said in a previous thread...I did not use a torx bit for either bag. I took a larger flat head screw driver...lodged it into the screw...and undid them that way (I didn't have a bit). But defintly unplug your bags. I never had to worry about my bags exploding because although they are connected to the module...the module thinks they already blew (car is salvage and although airbags are brand spankin new module things it's the old bags that already blew). You will also need a 19mm (or 17mm?) head to unscrew the actual steering wheel. The Haynes manual says you need a special tool to seperate the wheel from the column...but if yours is hard to come off...just wiggle it from side to side (hold you hands at 3 and 9 o'clock) while pulling lightly and it should come off within 20 seconds of wiggling. When you put your new one on...make sure you are putting it on in the same position as the old one because it's got "grooves" that it slides into...so you should put it in the same position as the old one.

no 95-96 airbag can't be swapped with 97-99 steering wheel.

Correct...95-96 bags are square/rectangular and butt ugly. The 97-99 bags (and possibly early 5th gen) are the more sophisticated 4 'star' looking kind. The passenger one however, is the same I believe. If you want a 97 bag...just buy a 97 wheel and bag or trade yours for such a pair. Module should still work theoretically with either set.
