My friend has a 96 Max SE 5spd. He's got over 100,000 miles on his car. When he takes off from a stop with a little authority, his car somtimes hesitates. I've been in the car a few time and witnessed it myself. He told me it somtimes even does it in all the gears when eccelerating. He cleaned his K&N fillter and had his fuel injectors cleaned at Jiffy Lube and said the problem still comes and goes. Also he's noticed it mainly does it on humid days.

Bad Oxygen sensor? Or worse?

My guess?

Bad Spark Plugs. My old Integra did that when they were bad! Tell him to spend the $60 and swap them out. Of course, check the ECU for any codes first!

Funny you say that. He just told me he put Bosch platinum plugs in at 80,000 miles. I think that might be his problem. I've heard many people on this board say that Bosch plugs suck in our Maximas. There most be something about those NGK plugs are baby"s need. After all, those plugs go fo $10 a pop.

The Bosch plugs whould not cause hesitation unless they were gapped wrong. I have used Bosch in my I30 and they performed just as well as my new NGK'S.

I whould make sure the fuel filter has been changed first before doing anything. There are tons of things that could cause hesitation.

He's getting it checked out next week. The Nissan mechanic he talked to said many things can cause hesitation.
