2 inches to much?
#42
Nope, my wheels aren't tucked. 2.2F & 1.8R sounds nice. I don't want 2 go through the same headache my friend is going through. He has a 94 integra with a 3 inch drop. He's stuck having 2 replace his axel a lot more often then he should originally have to, due to the weight thats drowning it. I know maxima's & Integra's aren't the same, but their still cars & their still common problems wit common solutions.

Please don't go cheap on your suspension, especially with a 2" drop.
KYB GR-2s are stock replacement dampers. They're made for stock springs, and at best should only be used with a REALLY MILD drop. If you're going that low, you want Tokico Illuminas or Koni Yellows.

yeah it will
According to Redline maxima (a sponsor for here) 2" should be fine, my man' got a max with the tain srprings which is either a 2" or 2.2" drop and they said 19" would still work, maybe not 20's but 19's will

You shouldn't rub with S-Tech's.
If you wanted to go lower, get coilovers. I would say NCSU's drop would be the best compromise between ride height while maintaining longevity of the axles, boots and cv joints. With my S-Tech's, the control arms are already angled up and the flex section on my y-pipe will need to be replaced down the road.

Axles and fender well clearance aren't the only problems. Don't forget that a ~2" drop seriously FUBARs your suspension and steering geometry, which will hurt your handling and might make your tires wear out faster.
Also, be CAREFUL with Tein S-Techs (the springs with the 2" drop). They kill most of your suspension travel and are barely stiff enough to keep your car from bottoming out over every single bump.

I geuss it would be better with progress Springs and Tokico Illuminas or Koni Yellows. Would it be around the same price for coil overs? And where is the best/cheapest place to purchase?
thanks for the replies

how are sprints compared to the tein s-techs? I heard the sprints are stiff, which wouldnt be the best for ride quality but would prevent the suspension from bottoming out over every bump right?

Tein Basics would be fine with a 2" drop, and they're a great set of simple coilovers. For about the same price you could also get Ksport Kontrol Pros, which have camber plates and let you go as low as you want without losing suspension travel (disadvantages are that they have a harder ride unless you specifically order softer springs, and require periodic checking/maintenance).

And don't forget, soft springs aren't always good for ride quality anyway. If they're too soft, you might have a floaty, uncontrolled ride and/or hit the bump stops so much that the ride ends up being harsh anyway.

i have tein coilovers. not sure how much i lowered it. on stock wheels i have a finger gap and no bottoming out or anything. on my 17" with 235/45/17 i have a finger gap and not ride issues. but on my 18" with 32offset riding on 235/40/18 the front are always rubbing.

Which would be the best/cheapest setup
Tokico Illiminas that cost about $440
KYB AGX -$370
Tokico Blues-$300
Sprint Springs-$190
How do you guys think The tokico blues will ride witht the sprint springs?

Don't get anything less than Illuminas with a drop that's bigger than ~1.5".

I have Tein S-techs on my otherwise stock 1999 gxe suspension. We took out the bump stops and have been rolling on stock struts/shocks for the past 3 months. I bottom on everything, it sucks. I'm going to get the Illuminas pretty soon, it should help with the bottoming, right? I honestly can't afford to get a new set of springs too. Honestly, how bad would the s-tech with illumina combo be? I'm running stock 15" sawblades with factory tire size btw. I dont want to kill my cars suspension/ axles/ and undercarriage. I've had "sport drops" before without any consequences for 100K miles on my hondas.

Thanks for cutting that all up.
I doubt that changing from the s-techs to progressive or eibach is going to make much of a difference. There are probably more than a few on here rolling with s-tech + upgraded shock/strut combos without issue.

Actually, changing to Progress will fix a lot. Changing to Eibach will fix everything.
Progress springs are stiffer than S-Techs and don't give as much of a drop, so they do a MUCH better job of keeping your car from bottoming out. Eibachs are slightly stiffer than Progress springs, and their drop is right in the sweet spot -- low enough to improve handling and looks, but not low enough to murder your suspension geometry and wear your axles out too prematurely.
There are definitely several people on these forums with S-Techs and Illuminas that "don't have problems". But that doesn't really say much. I know someone who had an I30 on cut Eibachs and stock dampers, which was quite literally the most innard-liquefying brain-smashing tooth-crushing combo I've ever seen, and he "didn't have problems" either.
It seems that most S-Tech owners can't even tell when they're hitting the bumpstops -- when they hear a hard whack, they just think the ride is hard because they're low. I wouldn't consider them authorities on the subject of whether S-Techs cause problems...
Besides, the ONLY cases of blown Illuminas I've ever seen have been with S-Techs.

i agree, my max is lowered 4 inches on 18's and my tires are still not tucked under the fender(the back is a tiny bit, but it sags for some reason). I have no issue with rubbing or anything either.

Ive been on Sprints with AGX's for years and have had no issues with axles, ever.

Where did you ever get the idea that Eibachs went that low?
Sorry, but this drop is not lower then my Sprints, and definately not lower then coilovers.

Or maybe I should just say F$(k it and go for the 4" body scrape drop. lol

Also, 4" is physically impossible on anything but coilovers....
