Will new HU blow my speakers?

I just bought a new Pioneer Headunit and was just about to install it when I read the following on the instruction manual:

Do not use with speakers less than 50W or they will burn, blow, cause a fire, die a horrible death, etc.

After researching a little bit, I found that my Maxima was blessed with 15 watt speakers. I was wondering if I should consider installing new speakers all throughout the inside of the car to keep from damaging anything or if this is just a precautionary statement. I'm guessing I would have to take it easy on the volume controls so I don't blow any speakers. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

That is 50W max. Your pioneer HU probably only puts out around 18W rms, so it should work decently witht he stock speakers as long as your don't abuse them. If you have the money, though, go for the new speakers.

Okay that's kind of what I was thinking. Now I have a 97 Maxima GXE. Would I need the Nissan diversity adapter in order to hook up the radio to my new aftermarket headunit?

I already have that but from what I've read, some Nissan cars do not have a direct connector from the stock radio that can be plugged straight in to aftermarket headunits. That's why I was wondering if I would need the adapter for my car. Any input would be appreciated.

if you have the bose system you need the diversity adapter since the bose HU uses two antennas. one in the window and the other on the car. It pulls from whatever one has the greater frequency hence trying to eliminate the static found on cheap car radios...If you have BOSE you will need more that a wiring harness......you cant use an aftermarket HU with the bose system unless you rewire the whole system. each speaker is indiv. amped and the stock speakers are rated at 1 ohm....gudby new HU....they make a bose adapter for around 50-100 bucks....if your gxe is a bone stock no options car then you may have the cheepy nissan radio then im not sure if you need the diversity adapter....look at you antenna plug behind the radio does it have 2 pins or look like on big single pin.....

i think all maxima have the dual antenna plugs. if no bose, get harness adaptor & wire it to the hu then plug into harness in dash. speakers should be ok until ready to replace.

www.circuitcity.com shows what you need for your car (go to Cars -> In-dash players, then pick your car and it'll tell you what you need) - I used this a few weeks back when I put in 2 JVC CD players (1 for my mom's car and 1 for my sister's car). They knock off $13 when you buy both car & stereo harnesses together ($19 each x 2 = $38 - $13 = $25 for both). I used like 3 $15 off $100 Circuit City coupons when I bought the stuff (split the orders into 3 diff ones since I had 2 HUs, 4 harnesses (2 Honda car & 2 JVC HU), 1 install kit, 2 speakers, and a speaker harness)

For a 97 Maxima:
- Metra Nissan Antenna Adapter (40-NI10) MET 40NI10 $12.99
- Metra Nissan Custom Installation Kit (99-7417) MET 997417 $17.99
- Metra Vehicle Wiring Harness (80-7550) MET 807550 $18.99
- Metra Radio Wiring Harness (PR-0180) MET PR0180 $18.99 - $13.00 = $5.99

Just grab the antenna adapter from CC since its $13
