Is the Idler Pulley supposed to turn?
Is the Idler Pulley supposed to turn? My belt for A/C and Alternator just broke today and after installing the new belt and tightening everything up I noticed that the Idler Pulley doesn't turn. Didn't notice before if it did or not. Any help for this dumb question will be much appreciated. If this is normal then I'm done, if not I need a new pulley. I'm hopin' it's normal.

Yeah, I just took off the whole assembly and the bearings are trashed. Hopefully that is why I was having starting probs and it will go away after I replace the pulley. I'll have to call around in the morning to see if anyone has any in stock. If not, I'll have to order one. Thanx guys, I didn't want to take something apart if it was not broke but it is. I love this site.

those things are under quite a bit of stress, and as such I'd recommend using a new one. A friend of mine has his idler pulley go out 100 miles after changing his timing belt, destroyed his whole engine. Granted this one isn't on the timing chain, but it still wouldn't be worth doing twice.

Relaced Idler Pulley with new one from dealer and all is well. Battery is running at 13.8 volts with engine running. Thanx to all. Just a note, if you need to replace pulley it is easiest to just remove the 3 bolts holding the bracket to the chasis, instead of trying to pull the bolt out from the pulley.
