offically a 5 spd - got a ques for the "converted"

man all that hard work was worth it ! i cant wait till the 500 miles break in is over.

if your contemplating this.....do it its really worth it 10x over...

i have a question for the "converted" does your idle stay at 1000-1500 for moment when you press the clutch in say comming to a traffic light then go down to normal ?? if it did how did you fix it ?

I'm thinking about doing the swap, is it a lot of work, how long does it take, etc... I would've pm'd you, but since I don't have 15 posts yet I can't. Any info would be appreciated, thanks

well im pretty knowledable with car mechanics and i would have had it done in 10-12 hours but i was missing a part. Just be prepared for anything to happen cause it will. heres a glimpse...

i got into the project early sat morn and by the afternoon i realized i had no timing gear for my flywheel.

after getting the gear a few days later the passenger axels i boght had really messed up threads so i used my auto passenger axel.

OH that reminds me people the auto passenger axel is the same as the manual passenger axel im using my auto axel on the pass side and it works fine.

is it involved ? yup...worth it ? definitly theres a write up on how to do it if you arent sure of every step

http://www.dynomagic.com/5spd_conversion.htm

i started with the directions but they were slowing me down. since ive now been thru it i can help you any way i can...

its the automatic ecu in your car. The only way to fix it is to get a 5spd ecu.

I had the same idle issue you had.. It didn't bother me though. And as 96Sleeper mentioned, get a 5spd ECU and you are set.

good luck but maybe in the future look for any other year 5spd ECU.. unless you aren;t planning on upgrading it via TS or JWT..

Welcome to the 5 speed world, I did my conversion last year and been loving it since.
Mine does the same as yours, hasn't really bothered me too much, and from talking to other ppl with 5 speeds, I've heard its normal. It's for easier shifting at lower RPM, otherwise when you go to the next gear, its a little jerky.
Nissan's have always thought carefully about shifting. So that sounds to be about the right explination for it.

Have fun with the AE ****. The 5spd "logo" rubbed of on mine after only a year. I had to put a new all leather one on instead.

mine did it, it's the auto ecu engaging the IACV. I don't have an IACV anymore, so mine goes straight down to 650rpms.

i THINK its because of the p/n switch. even though we have the 5 spd ecu in there its still "looking" for the p/n switch. i could be way off, but thats what ive concluded from my car. cause i have that damn 10-03 code all the time.

You need to get a 99 SE 5 SP PCM-ECU (cali spec). Then your Idle problem will go away. I only have this p1706 problem, I don't know how to get rid of it.
