I agree, a bit harsh. There was no cussing going on and both of you had good points and bad points. I thought it was educational to see a good debate.

and it happened in 2006!!!!

Back on topic: The Haynes manual says to apply "a thin coat of RTV sealent to the cover grove, and to the corners on the front camshaft journal cap,...".
This thread suggests to only put the RTV to the two points in the illustration.

old but good

Yes it may be an old thread but still very relevant. As our cars age and acquire more miles, I have over 200K on mine; maintenance issues like this are becoming more frequent. I to have the same problem and plan on tackling this when it gets a little warmer out. Any pics of the process would be a big help to anyone else in the same situation. That program would also be nice to have.

Used to be on phatg20, but looks like they took it down. Try googling around for it.

I had to tear mine out too. I used some silicone remover but not sure it helped so I still spent couple of hours of scraping it out. Now the problem is putting the new one in. I got the ones from autozone(felpro) and they don't seem tofit (too big). Anybody has idea how to get them in the Valve cover ring.

man, just force it a little. it will slide in. after all it should be tight so that oil does not get in the cylinder
