Speedo Head Replacement Dilema

I currently have a 96SE that's pulling a p0500 code. I have replaced the VSS twice, and traced all the wiring out and all looks to be good. The last piece is the Speedo head.
I am not ready to drop $300 on a part just to clear a code to pass emissions. The speedo works fine, always has, but for some reason i keep getting a 0500and it will not clear. Everyone i have talked to says I need to replace the Speedo head.
I was going to get one from a junkyard, and my question is what will fit my car?
Does it have to be specific to my model and transmission? I have a 96SE with a Manual tranny. My other minor problem is the white face guages. If a GLE/GXE would work, it won't be while, but is it possible to swap the faces?

Thanks!
