call me ****...but is it possible to install a shorter antenna?

ok so heres the deal, i had circuit city install a new CD deck (big mistake) for me instead of the bose deck. now, when i had the bose CD deck the antenna would NEVER go up unless i had it on radio. now, i never listen to the radio. but now that i have an aftermarket deck the antenna ALWAYS goes up no matter what. i think it looks incredibly stupid and was wondering if there was any way i could replace it with a shorter antenna? or if just unplugging the antenna wire from the back of the deck would stop the antenna from going up?

get a shorter antenna mast, the stock ones are way too long! I just disconnected mine from the trunk, & manually pull it up at the length I want.

Your deck should have a antenna output on it. My deck did (Junk Panasonic). My attn only goes up when the radio is on.

If you want things done right, DO IT YOURSELF!!!!!

Perhaps your deck is junk.

I never got my antenna to stay down. Everyone always says disconnect the wire in the back...yeah, I've disconnected everything back there and the antenna goes up. Only time it doesnt is when the entire radio will not work. Obviously something isnt right. I'm thinking of buying an actual stub style antenna and connecting it in the stock location. No motor to it, just gotta figure out how to wire it.

Mmm, Weird, Clearly the atenna is still getting a signal from somewheres. Unhook it from the back of your deck I guess.

What wires are you refering to when you say $60 wires???

I just unplugged the power wire from the antenna in my '99 and it doesn't go up, weird. It has the stock deck though.

I'll have to go back and look at it again, but do you have keyless entry? For some reason I don't remember two connectors coming out of the antenna box thing.

Well you problem is not the antenna, or the deck. You have the amp remote turn on wire (blue/white) connected to the power antenna (blue).

Went outside and checked, the antenna has a single connector near the bottom of the long black assembly on the side facing the rear of the car. I just removed the scissor jack and I can reach down and unplug it (blindly) with no problems. Not sure if it's any different on a car with Keyless, I wouldn't imagine it would be though since the antenna is in the same location..

The picture you posted is of the Keyless Entry Module, so unplugging either of those will do nothing for ya. Keyless module on eBay

keyless entry...

disconnect the wire inside hte hole where the jack is placed... between frame and rear fender wll....

but ur reception will be bad for AM stations...

FM works on the antenna thats on ur windshield.. which is top few brown defroster lines on ur rear window...

This thread should've gone in the car audio and electronics forum where you don't have a bunch of people that don't know what they're talking about sharing their 2 cents. Some manufacturers have an antenna remote turn on wire, some don't. Jensen doesn't. Panasonic, alpine, eclipse, some others have an independent wire dedicated to that. If it bother's you so much: cut the line, install a switch, or switch to a rubber antenna.
