would a set up like that rob much power? ball park what to you think? cause i mean, im bone stock besides my stereo system so i wouldnt mind a little added sound from a cheap and easy intake

 

It will proably add power, not rob it.

you will likely lose a bit of low end power but you most likely will gain power in the upper rpm

 

thats a really good setup...i heard it retains the low end tq, and gives you high end power still...

The resonator actually give you torque. But i like it freeflowing.

 

i have also a same set up.. i have a 5 spd.. i didnt notice any lost torqe but i would like to know how much i have gained with this set up... anyone knows let us know.?/

i was thinking it might rob power due to the fact that it is closer to the engine than stock, which would essentially mean it would be taking in hotter air? that was my theory, but i guess i was wrong! (which in this case i like to hear)

 

I feel like a NOOB asking but what exactly is the "set up"?? And what is the point of still having the stock intake plastic piece in there with a new intake? Does it keep air flowing into the new filter? Cause if it does it seems like a really smart idea!! (Be nice guys, theres only one way to learn and thats to ask. )

to answer your questions seriously:

1) "the set up" is just the cone filter on the MAF and other rectangular plastic piece.

2)no that plastic piece on the front of the car doesnt need to be there. the person just never took it off when they replaced the intake w/ the cone filter

 

If you are auto, you probably will notice a slight loss in low-end, especially from a dead stop.

Watch out!! about to talk again!! Looking at it though and having some experience working on the intake system, wouldn't keeping that plastic piece in be smart? The flow of air from it would go directly onto the intake filter, and the air flow into it would thus be better/slightly colder than if you were to take it out? I dunno, just a crazy idea.

 

Just buy a short ram air intake for 30 bucks on ebay. Sounds awesome! Best 30 bucks you will spend. I had no problems with mine. Honestly im not sure if it added much power but it definitely didnt rob it.

 

I would have to say that the intake system I have is one of the best you can have. I will post a picture later of it.

 

Aftermarket intakes on 4th gens kill throttle response. No way around it.

If your looking for some noise, get an intake. If you like nice throttle response when you step on the gas, leave the stock intake alone.

 

I have the resonator and the square box right behind the MAF that I bought from a junk yard. How do I connect the square box to the MAF? There is about 1/4" diameter difference in the two. I cannot figure this out. The coupler on my short ram is too small for the sqaure box.

 

Why use the short ram if you're staying with the stock resonator..

 

I was going to replace the short ram with the resonator to see if I could feel a difference in power after what I have heard.

Couldn't have said it better myself....I have an 98 suto and I juts installed the stillen intake, I feel a slight push in the high geras but it does hurt the throttle response and YOU WILL FEEL THE LOSE OF THE LOW END POWER!!!! But I still like it. Im just trying to figure out a way to give it more air.......

 

Those intakes are definitely worth the $30 on eBay, I love mine. It sounds stock below about 3k rpms, then roars above that. But yeah, apparently autos lose some low end, but the hp overall is really about the same.
