Squeal sound on startup?

When I start the car (cold or hot) I am getting a squealing sound for a couple seconds, it is not the started i had that problem last year and fixed it.

today I noticed something a little more:

When I start the car it squeals for a second or 2…
BUT
If I turn the AC on and put the car into Drive the squeal comes back for another 5-10 seconds then goes away.

If in those 5-10 seconds I turn the AC OFF the squeal goes away (right away)

I am a little weak off the start, but if anyone can point me in the right direction I hope I can fix this one myself

Thanks for the help

either the AC compressor (cause i had mine replaced...didnt make the sound go away completely but after i allow the car to drop under 1k RPM ot stops) or as my friend suggested could be from the belt tenstioner

- You can narrow it down to having someone else in your car start it while you try to pin point where the noise is coming from.
- Check to see if the Serpentine and A/C belts need to be replaced.
- Adjust the belt tension.
- If you're not mechanically inclinded buy a can of belt dressing. *Note: Use this as a last resort for it is only a quick fix and the squeal will be sure to come back.

I'f you've never changed the belts, change them.
They're all dry & cracked if original belts.

I changed out both belts on my 95 Max and I'm getting what I assume to be a power steering belt squeal at startup (when I turn the wheel)--It seemed pretty tight (I don't know how to measure 22 lbs of pressure at the midpoint). I'll try to tighten it a few more turns to see if that helps...any suggestions?

Well turns out with was my AC compressor belt, changed it out and now she just humms are startup

Stoobie.. you 100% sure its your belt? If its ONLY happening on cold startup it could be your starter? About a year ago I was having that problem, squeal on startup almost sounds like a belt issue. It’s a little bit of a pain, but to fix it all you have to do is pull it out the starter take it apart and re-grease it then pop it back in, did that over a year ago and hasn’t given me a single problem since…

Again just a guess but if you have both belts checked and its still squealing on startup it could be that.

agree with everyone here, i've been dealing with my belts and whatnot for over 2 months now, and i guarantee you the problem lies somewhere there. Either the compressor or pulleys or belts, one of those.

Hi,

I'm Ravi and I'm new in handling cars.
Even I'm having a similar problem with my car, can any show a pic or video to adjust these belts or how to replace them (If needed).

Thank you,
Ravi.

Notice that other people have the same problem. Good the search function works well here.

I have the same queal upon staring and I'm pretty sure it is related to the starter, even though its the second starter and a Nissan one on my 98 Max.

But question about the belts. I heard somehere to NEVER use belt dressing.

Is there any harm?
