Strut Still Good?

So, it seems like an obvious answer, but I wanted to be sure. I'm trying to determine if the rear stock strut is still good. The strut is out of the car and I can push the rod completed down into the strut housing. When I take pressure off the rod, the rod doesn't shoot out of the housing, it stays there until it is pulled out. I'd imagine they're not like this new, but will the strut still function properly if I install it? Thanks.

You need new struts, dont try to put it back in if they are like that... just get new ones as soon as possible
