So I have been prepping my car to get it ready to sell....

To appeal to a potentially broader audience, I now have the car on the OEM wheels and springs and V-rated tires.

Previous configuration was with H&R springs, Kosei K-1 16x7.5", and Kumho Ecsta Z-rated 215-55-16.

New configuration is with Stock SE-springs, OEM 5-spoke 16x7", and Continental V-rated 215-55-16 tires.



So now my car has the following qualities:

1. Rides much better.
2. Has LESS body roll in the turns.
3. Has HIGHER exit speed out of the turns.
4. Engine seems to pull better on the highway.

On the downside, the car obviously looks like a truck now with the stock springs.

Now I am sure a huge amount of the performance is from the subframe connectors I have. I was at the shop getting the work done on the suspension when another "car-guy" I hadn't seen in a couple years just happened to walk in. So this other guy was big into 300-ZX turbos, and has built up a couple 240SX race cars, among a few other things.

I showed him the subframe connectors with the X-brace, and he was blown-away. He told me I must have one of the very few Maximas in existence with that much subframe work.

On the front end, it has the strut tower bar, BlehmCo stage-2 lower tie bar, eibach camber bolts on the struts, polyurethane control arm bushings, and polyurethane mid-bar bushings on the stabilizer bar... but the bar end links are stock rubber.

Rear end is the strut tower bar and rear stabilizer bar.

Shocks are Illuminas.

If only it didn't look like a truck.
At least I wont be scraping the speedbumps as much anymore.

At the same time, I also have put back the OEM Wheels instead of the aftermarket Kosei wheels.

What I meant to say is that the car pulls better with the stock wheels.
I didn't mean to imply that its pulling better with the stock suspension.

I thought the K-1's were lighter than stock tho.

 

Actually, I think the Kosei wheels are lighter.
They at least felt lighter when taking them off the car.

But they are a half inch narrower and combining the difference in wheel offsets, the outer edge of the OEM wheels are about 1 inch further into the wheel well compared to the Kosei.

All else being equal, I believe the wheel offset also makes a difference in acceleration.

I thought stock wheels were 15" not 16". Granted I have the hub cap version rather than the optional rim job (no pun intended).

Personnally I don't see the point in lowering a car based on the expense most people go through lowering the car and having your exhust scrapping every gum wrapper stuck to the road.

 

I think in '95, the SE wheels were 15". But in 96 or 97 onwards, the SE wheels were 16".

So I have the OEM wheels from the later 4th gen years.

 

Lighter stock wheels = more torque down on the ground, not trying to rotate heavier mass.

I always notice the differance in performance, both accelleration and braking when I switch my summer and winter (stock) wheels and tires.
