Shaving Emblems

Part One:

So my rear hamburger is off. Took three different types of chemical (goo gone, naptha, turtle wax bug and tar), a credit card, a rag, and a ton of elbow grease. Overall im not too happy as of this point. For starters it looks like total crap, and im dreading how long it will take the logo to fade. Oh and it tore up m paint i need to find touchup to fix the nasty scratches i have now. The scratches are my fault, but still.

Yes im going to do the rest of it, but man this is much harder than i was expecting.

the emblems on my moms car fell off on their own and it took a little while to fade and finally disappear.

It took me 2 days and I completely removed everything!! It looks like it came from the factory the way I did it. I'll post pics a little later.

I used a hair dryer to soften it up before and after I took it off. Used a credit card and some goo gone and voila. It did take a a month to fade completely out, but no worries or rush, it will disappear at some point.

As far as the scratches, if they're not too deep, compound, polish & wax. If they are, light touch up and some langka to smooth down the blobs.

It took about 30 minutes for me to shave off the rear burger. I use goo gone and bug and tar remover. I had to use a hair dryer and my finger nails to take the glue off, but after that removing the residue was easy. There is barely a mark left behind. You have to look at it perfectly to see it, but it should completely fade in a few weeks. I also removed the stupid dealer logo from the trunk lid.

You'll most likely mess more **** up. Don't even bother, if it doesn't come out by wet sanding, compounding/polishing then don't make it worse by using the "scractch remover"

How can you mess it up more with Scratch remover? I would think wet-sanding would really mess up your paint up more, but I don't know Iv never tried wetsanding on paint..

I've had pretty good sucess using a regimine of Menzerna's Intensive Polish (removes 2000 grit swirls), Final Polish II & some Poorboys Natty Blue to top it off. If your scratches are more severe, try using their Power Gloss (I think it's removes around 1000-1500 grit swirls and scratches)

Wet sanding for me is a scary proposition, so I've never tried it or have any desire to, so I can't help you in that department, sorry..

Good luck y'all

i spent sometime in a body shop and have done some wet sanding. pretty interesting stuff, the bondo, clay and primer. but if you want to smooth out your surface with wet sanding, by all means go for it, just be sure you know what your doing. what your wet sanding should only be the clear coat, i worked with a body repair guy, so he only wet sanded parts that were, newly painted or parts ready to be painted. either way be sure you fully understand what your doing. its not too difficult IMO.

I soaked the remaining glue with bug and tar remover, it made it pretty soft and It came off with my fingernail.

The pinstripe is one thing I'm not touching. I was unsuccessful in removing the marks left over by it so I've decided to just get new ones and be done with that.

Really? The pinstripe came off for me WAY easier than the decals did....Well not that the decal itself took long but that damn glue. The pinstripes pretty much came off in a few pieces and the mark left behind I Goo-Gone a few times,wash/wax it and it was cool...the damn badges I'm still trying to get to go away, getting faint but damn

Ok i got the emblems done, and i did the second one a specific way that worked REALLY well that ill detail here. Maybe we can add it to the how to's if it applies. As for the pintstripe i did about 6 foot of it tonight (finish it tomm) i was able to do it with my fingernail and get rid of the line with goo goon in about a 1/2 hour. I am defintily taking the rest off tomm. I'm loving the new look so far. I'll post pics after i get some touchup paint for the scratches from the first emblem where i messed up.

OK heres how i did it.

1) Open trunk, let it sit open so the sun beats right down on it. I left it alone for about an hour.
2) Leaving the lid up cover the emblem in your choice of chemical. I used Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover. I let it stand about 15-20 minutes.
3) Take the fishing line or dental floss and slide it under the emblem to remove it.
4) Use a credit card to remove the glue. I repeated step 3 a few times and all came off. After a few minutes of buffing you can barely tell an emblem was ever there.

My pinstripe comes off very easy also, but I've tried everything to remove the after affect of it. I wet sanded, compounded, polished, and waxed and i can still see that a pinstripe was there and i can't stand it. That's y i just bought new stripes today...they look nice. Metalic Silver and White (almost the same as the old one's except for the metalic one.)
