rough idle due to air filter?
rough idle due to air filter?
Today I went to a Nissan stealer for some solution of
1) Very rough idle
Car starts with a squeeling sound @ 1500 rpm, comes down to 1100, and goes up and studies at 1300rpm. I let car warm for good 3-4 minutes idle will come back at 600rpm
When I put car back to Park, Idle will shoot up again to 1300-1500 rpm and car gets gas somehow.
2) Stalling in Gear
If I have AC on and put car in gear the car will stall immediatly. It does n't happen every time happens like 1 in 15 times. But once it start to happen It continues to happen for good 45min to 1 hr.
Anyway Stealer's mechanic failed to find anything wrong with the car, heck they couldn't even replicate stalling issue.
In the End mechanic told me that " My airfilter is cause of rough idle and its a know thing with Nissan's & adviced me to go back to stock air filter". I have a K&N Cone air filter which is dirty,
I am wondering is mechanic correct, Can really an air filter cause rough idle?.

my old 95 had almost the same problems... it stalled when i first crank'd it up.. So some one on the org told me to try to clean my intake, so i searchd and found a SEAFOAM write-up through the brake booster line.. with a tune-up (spark plugs, oil, fuel/oil filter) and that really helpd alot... it ran alot smoother and had alil more kick out of it...hope this helps good luck and let us know whats up?

Check the resistance of the ECTS, make sure it's within spec according to the temp/resistance table.
The Haynes shop manual has the table.
Clean both the throttle body and the IACV. Make sure the idle is set correctly on the default throttle body stop and the IACV. Again, the Haynes manual has the procedure or just search this site.
I call
on the dirty K&N filter, but do clean it.

a rough or inconsistant idle can also be a mass air flow sensor that is dirty. it can especially happen when using an aftermarket air filter like a K&N that uses oil to filter the dirt. the oil can, over time, puts a small film on the wires on the mass air flow and will cause erractic readings for the computer. use some good contact cleaner to clean it.
