I recently had my brakes done the begining of this summer and now everytime I brake softly they squeak a lot. Is there anything I can to do get rid of this? Should I have the shop that put them on take a look at them?

Nothing pisses me off me then having my car sound like it's junker even though the brakes are brand new.

Is this just a problem w/older cars? I don't remember my last '90 maxima having this problem...

It depends if the shop that did them cut the rotors correctly (if they didnt use new ones), and what kind of pads they used. A lot of customers come into my work and want the cheaper aftermarket Wagner type of pads on things like their Toyotas and whatnot, and a lot of times they come back a couple weeks later with a squeal. This is cause the aftermarket pads are usually a harder and higher metal content pad than the OEM dealer ones. And that is usually the reason for the noise. I see it more so on the Japanese imports like our Nissans and Toyotas.

There is also the possibility that whoever installed them didnt use the correct shims (if they even used shims at all).

My advice would be to take it back to where you had the work done and have them check it out to make sure everything in together correctly and whatnot and then go from there. Unless you feel confident enough to get in to your own repair work. It shouldnt cost you much at all cause itll probably be considered a "come back" for the tech who performed the service....so long as you dont need new parts or anything. Good Luck

Maybe they didn't put brake quiet on the back of the pads

there are also procedures for "breakign in" new pads or rotors

i forgot but your soposta take hte car up to 60MPH, brake to 40MPH adn go back to 60MPH like 6 time and avoid abrupt stoping

PS shims help, and use good break pads! not cheap jsut brakes stuff

When you take it back don't be afraid to stand over the guy who is doing the work. Or you could just do it yourself (Personally when it comes to brakes I trust no one else). You will find that the brakes are surprisingly simple and hard to screw up. Just make sure that the shims are new and there and that they didn't leave out the pad springs (I'm not sure how much they actually do though). There's a link in the how to's that tells you all about your brakes.

thanks guys, I'll have to stop by the shop and see if they did install new shims. I know all the proper techniques in "braking in" new brakes so I know there shouldn't be any problems with that... how annoying though.
