resetting airbag?

Ok so i had to remove my steering wheel, and when i put it back on (and connected the connectors that go to the airbag). I get a flashing airbag light. I'm sure my airbags fine (or at least i hope it is). I seem to remember there wasa way to reset the airbag, but since i don't have my chiltons manual anymore and my harddrive with the Maxima manual on it crashed i'm clueless... So anyone know how you reset your airbag?

then somethings wrong with it. do you have seat airbags ? my 99 has them and a common problem seems to be the pass seat airbag. the airbag light may not even be related to you taking the wheel off.

Disconnect the battery before you disconnect anyting on the SRS system.
That will avoid it throwing a code.

it didnt work the first time I tried it but I was again at a stop light and in a rush.

Get in the car.
Turn the key to the "On" position
push the button on the door 7-8 complete times, this mean all the way in and all the way out within 10 seconds. You should see the Air bag light go off.

If you are positive you have performed it properly with no flaws then maybe there is another problem that is causing the light to stay on.

I am new and the FSM is golden and all that but could someone explain to me what effect disconnecting the negative AND positive terminals on the battery will have? Why not just the negative? Safty?
